GitHub Platform Engineer Duration: 6 months + ExtensionsDay Rate: TBC via Umbrella EngagementLocation: South-East (Remote Flexibility) A global insurance group is moving the management of its GitHub Enterprise estate to infrastructure as code and requires a senior GitHub Platform Engineer to build the solution. The role will develop the GitOps code that provisions and governs repositories, teams, security controls and rulesets, integrated with local and group identity and access management. Changes will no longer be made manually, so everything is created consistently, is auditable and is in line with DORA and GDPR obligations. This is an engineering role rather than a GitHub administration role, and the successful candidate will be the named owner of the GitOps work. Responsibilities Develop the IaC/GitOps code that provisions and governs the GitHub Enterprise estateBuild and maintain the GitHub Actions pipelines that apply changesExtend the existing codebase as well as contributing new codeProduce designs and take them through sign-off with Information Security and Enterprise ArchitectureTake the work end to end with the Project Manager, Information Security and Enterprise ArchitectureEvaluate and work with group colleagues in Europe who are implementing a GitHub GitOps solution the UK business may adoptContribute to standards and best practice Requirements Strong GitOps and GitHub engineering experienceCoding in TypeScript, Python and/or Terraform and confident working in existing codebasesSolid CI/CD, GitHub Actions and GitOps knowledgeUses AI coding tools such as Claude Code to accelerate deliveryAble to communicate designs, not just code, to senior security and architecture stakeholdersWorks well with external teamsAwareness of identity and access management policies
