Overview A leading technology consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer to join a high-profile digital transformation programme. This role focuses on the design, development and enhancement of modern, cloud-based applications, with Python serving as a core technology across both backend and middleware services. This is a software engineering position requiring an individual with substantial experience building production-grade applications rather than data science or analytics-focused solutions. Successful candidates will have a strong understanding of application architecture, API development, cloud technologies, testing and modern engineering best practices. Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain robust Python applications and services within a modern cloud environment.Develop backend and middleware components including business logic, integrations and RESTful APIs.Support the integration of front-end applications with backend services to deliver seamless user experiences.Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable and reusable software solutions.Design and implement secure, high-performing APIs and enterprise integrations.Develop solutions that interact with databases, third-party services and internal business systems.Build, deploy and support application components within AWS environments.Develop comprehensive automated tests to ensure quality, stability and maintainability.Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, integration and performance issues.Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards, documentation and best practices.Work closely with architects, testers, product owners and other developers within agile delivery teams.Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues where appropriate.Essential Skills & Experience Extensive commercial experience developing production-grade applications using Python.Strong background building web applications, backend services and middleware solutions.Experience designing and developing secure REST APIs, including authentication, authorisation and error handling.Strong understanding of multi-tier application architecture and application design principles.Experience integrating user interfaces with backend services and APIs.Strong AWS experience, including application deployment and operation within cloud-native environments.Solid understanding of software engineering principles including object-oriented design, reusable code, design patterns and application security.Experience implementing automated testing and developing maintainable, testable software.Strong knowledge of Git, CI/CD pipelines and modern development practices.Experience working within Agile teams and collaborating across multidisciplinary delivery functions.Ability to take ownership of complex technical components from design through development, testing and deployment.Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be a senior software engineer with deep Python expertise and a proven track record delivering enterprise-grade applications.
