About the role As the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding the design and delivery of complex primary and secondary projects across the state and beyond. You will design the power systems and prepare for Principal Engineer sign-off activities, support key client relationships, and mentor engineers within your team. This role is suited to an experienced electrical engineering professional who brings technical expertise, commercial awareness, and the ability to influence project outcomes across the resources, industrial, utilities, and energy sectors. Responsibilities Lead the design and delivery of Primary and/or Secondary projects across HV designs in renewables, BESS, utilities, and industrial facilities.Provide technical leadership, review, and sign-off for engineering deliverables in line with Australian standards and client requirements.Oversee primary and/or secondary system design, including protection, control, SCADA, earthing, and equipment integration.Perform and review the calculations and studies required for the assigned scope, which may include earthing, lightning protection, insulation coordination, cable sizing, load flow, fault level, protection coordination and arc-flash assessments, to support safe, reliable and compliant designs.Prepare, review and coordinate discipline deliverables, including design criteria, calculations, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, schematics, protection and control philosophies, cable schedules and technical documentation relevant to the assigned primary and/or secondary scope.Act as a trusted technical advisor while coordinating design interfaces across primary, secondary, civil, structural, communications and drafting disciplines, resolving technical issues with clients, utilities, vendors and project teams throughout delivery.Mentor engineers across the team, supporting capability uplift, technical excellence, and professional development.Support tenders, technical proposals, engineering estimates, and project planning activities.Drive safety in design, quality assurance, and risk management across all project phases.Provide technical support during procurement, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and project closeout.Contribute to the ongoing improvement of engineering systems, standards, and work practices. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.Chartered status, National Engineering Register (NER) registration, or equivalent professional accreditation highly regarded.RPEQ, RPEV, CPEng, or eligibility to obtain registration where required, will be considered advantageous.Strong working knowledge of relevant Australian and international standards, including AS/NZS 3000, AS 2067, and IEC 61850. About You 5+ years’ experience in power systems and high voltage engineering, with strong capability in primary and/or secondary substation design.Demonstrated experience delivering transmission and high voltage substation projects, ideally across 132 kV to 500 kV environments.Experience in utilities, resources, industrial, water, or renewable energy sectors.Strong technical knowledge in areas such as protection systems, relay settings/configuration, and associated power system studies, with broader exposure to control systems, SCADA integration, and PLC-based solutions viewed favourably.Experience in preparing and reviewing high-quality engineering deliverables, including reports, specifications, datasheets, and technical methodologies.Capability to operate across technical leadership, design review, detailed design, and client engagement, and can apply sound engineering judgement to complex project challenges.Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with internal teams, clients, vendors, and project partners.Proactive, adaptable, and able to contribute positively within a growing and evolving business.Passionate about mentoring and developing engineers, helping to strengthen both technical capability and broader professional growth across the team.Hold full Australian work rights.
