About the role
This role will work on our Optimising Digital Infrastructure (ODI) Program which is consolidating and simplifying Sydney Water’s Data Centres to two new Private Data Centres, ensuring our technology services are in safe, reliable Tier 3+ Data Centre facilities.
As a Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible to lead the Application Migration Stream.
This stream is responsible for the application discovery, dependency assessment, migration planning, cutover and transition activities for all our applications and services into the new data centres.
As the Senior Project Manager, you will:
Lead the planning and execution of the application migration to our new highly secure Data Centres.Ensure effective alignment of the program principles to the design and transformation of applications and services as part of the migration process.Coordinate architects, application owners, vendors and technical teams to deliver migration outcomes.
Manage technical requirements, risks, dependencies and decisions into clear project actions and delivery plans.
Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, compliant and aligned to program objectives and timelines.
Oversee financial planning, resource management, risk management and business continuity activities.
Facilitate stakeholder engagement, technical workshops, knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration.
Maintain project artefacts, migration plans, decision logs and governance documentation.
Provide leadership, mentoring and oversight to support successful project delivery.
In this role, you will:
Manage project work applying Sydney Water’s delivery frameworks, including Prince2, the Digital Delivery Platform (DDP), and supporting business processesBuild and manage high-performing virtual teams of 30+ professionals across multiple projects.Ensure clarity of roles for all team members – from SMEs to vendors and project boards.Drive delivery of quality, fit-for-purpose solutions aligned to corporate standards.Oversee business case preparation, approvals, and financial management (budgets & forecasting).Integrate projects into the broader Digital portfolio, ensuring alignment to benefits, scope, schedule, and budget.Champion Sydney Water’s cultural values (Blue Bus & Signature Behaviours).
Experience and Qualifications:
A degree in technology or related sphere.
10+ years’ experience successfully project managing technology projects; with experience managing data centre migration projects.Additional training and qualification in project management (Prince2 Certification).Proven experience managing large programs and multiple projects in parallel.Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.Expertise in project governance, financials, and resource management.Ability to build collaborative, high-performing teams.Excellent communication and influencing skillsAustralian Government Baseline security clearance or above is highly desirable
