Senior AWS Solutions Architect / Backend Platform Engineer

Join a high-impact sustainability and compliance technology initiative as a Backend Platform Developer (AWS) supporting the development of a self-service onboarding platform for internal business stakeholders. This is a deliverable-based project with an anticipated project timeline of November 1, 2026 for the next few months. This role will focus on designing and building the backend infrastructure, workflow automation, system integrations, and security framework for a guided onboarding platform currently supported by an existing frontend prototype. The ideal consultant will deliver scalable, maintainable solutions while ensuring complete knowledge transfer and documentation for long-term internal ownership. Responsibilities: Backend Architecture & AWS DevelopmentDesign and build serverless backend architecture utilizing AWS services.Configure and implement AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES, and enterprise authentication components.Establish secure, scalable infrastructure using existing AWS credits and approved services.Workflow Automation Develop an automated onboarding engine supporting dependency-based task sequencing across a multi-step business process.Build status management logic including step enforcement, progression tracking, and engagement routing rules.Implement event-driven workflows that reduce manual intervention and enable automated process execution.API & Systems Integration Build REST APIs, webhook listeners, and integration services connecting with internal and external business systems.Integrate with platforms such as Airtable, Asana, learning systems, approval workflows, email services, and SharePoint where applicable.Develop notification automation supporting cross-functional stakeholder communication.Security & Compliance Implement role-based access controls across multiple user groups.Ensure encryption of sensitive compliance data both in transit and at rest.Support auditability, security best practices, and governance requirements.Documentation & Knowledge Transfer Deliver complete source code, technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and implementation decisions.Conduct knowledge transfer sessions to enable long-term internal maintenance without ongoing contractor dependency.Document user stories and design decisions to support future platform expansion and migration initiatives.Required Qualifications Strong AWS development experience with Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES, and Cognito/SSO integrations.Expertise in REST APIs, webhook architecture, and systems integration.Experience building workflow automation, orchestration engines, or dependency-aware task sequencing solutions.Background implementing enterprise security controls, RBAC, and compliance-focused architectures.Experience with corporate identity management and federated authentication environments.Preferred Qualifications Experience integrating with Airtable, Asana, SharePoint, LMS platforms, or approval systems.Familiarity with QuickApps, low-code platforms, React, or Next.js.Knowledge of Salesforce integration architecture and analytics/reporting platforms such as QuickSight.In this position, you may have access to client or customer systems, confidential and/or proprietary information or data.
