A Backend Engineer will design, build, and operate high-throughput services and event-driven systems used at large scale. The role spans API development, PostgreSQL and Redis data modeling, asynchronous processing, deployment, observability, and on-call, with a strong focus on reliability, latency, and engineering velocity.
Highlights
End-to-end backend ownership across high-throughput APIs, event-driven pipelines, data systems, deployment, observability, and on-call, with a strong emphasis on reliability and performance at scale.
Description
About The Role
The role focuses on building the services that power user-facing products - high-throughput APIs, event-driven pipelines, and the data layer behind features used by millions of customers every day.
You will join a backend team that treats reliability, latency, and developer velocity as equally important, and you will own systems end-to-end: from design and implementation through deployment, observability, and on-call.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate REST and gRPC services in Go, Python, or Java, handling sustained production traffic in the tens of thousands of requests per secondModel and evolve PostgreSQL and Redis schemas, writing efficient queries and managing migrations with zero-downtime deployment practicesBuild asynchronous workflows with Kafka or RabbitMQ, ensuring idempotency, dead-letter handling, and exactly-once processing semanticsInstrument services with distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry), structured logging, and custom Prometheus metrics to enable fast debugging and SLO trackingShip to production daily behind Kubernetes, owning rollouts, feature flags, canaries, and rollbacks end-to-endWrite unit, integration, and load tests as part of the normal development loop, and raise the bar on code quality through rigorous code reviewsPartner with frontend, product, and infrastructure teams to scope, estimate, and deliver features that ship on predictable timelines
What We Are Looking For
3–6 years of backend software engineering experience, including owning services in production at meaningful scaleExpert-level proficiency in at least one backend language: Go, Python, Java, or TypeScript/Node.jsDeep hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) including query optimization, indexing strategy, and transaction managementProduction experience with message queues or event streaming systems such as Kafka, Kinesis, or RabbitMQExperience deploying and operating services on AWS, GCP, or Azure, ideally with Docker and KubernetesBS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience; demonstrated ability to write clean, tested, well-documented codeBonus: experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), prior on-call ownership for high-availability services, or contributions to open-source backend tooling
