Description

Career Opportunity Here's the corporate drivel HR made us put at the top: Acro Commerce is looking for a Back End Developer to build, integrate, and maintain high-quality commerce solutions for our clients. That's done. Now here's what we really want. Someone who codes like it's their native tongue, but can still talk comfortably with our crew and the odd client. You've shipped real things, you've debugged other people's messes, and you'd rather pick up a new stack than say "that's not my language." You care about writing code that the next developer won't curse you for. You also know yourself. You can tell when you're stuck, and you ask for help before the deadline, not after. You can walk us through a bug that humbled you, and what you learned, without flinching. Low ego, high skills. That's the combo. What You’ll Do As a Back End Developer, you'll build and maintain the systems that help manufacturers, distributors, and brands sell online. Our client work spans a range of platforms and languages, and our developers flex between them. Right now, we're seeing a growing amount of .NET work, so if you've got .NET experience, we especially want to hear from you. Build & Deliver Write high-quality, maintainable code that follows Acro Commerce standards and our production processBuild new features, integrations, and full builds, as well as updates and revisions to existing sitesJuggle multiple smaller tasks or larger builds with shifting priorities, and still hit your deadlines Problem Solving Find and fix problems in code that might not be yours, where your only hint is a cryptic complaint from a clientProvide accurate estimates for defects, builds, and new functionality, and stick to themDeliver efficient, practical solutions to work requests, issues, and defects Collaboration & Growth Communicate clearly with Project Managers, Tech Leads, and clients about work requests, problems, and defectsAct as a peer and mentor to other developers, while being comfortable asking for help yourselfPick up new languages and platforms as client work demands it What You Bring We're less concerned with degrees and more with what you can actually build. Formal education is NOT required; you just need to show us you can code. Solid hands-on back-end development experience, with work samples you can shareExperience with .NET / C# is a strong assetExperience with some of what we work with day-to-day: PHP, Drupal, JavaScript, TypeScript, NodeJS, React, NextJS, Shopify, WordPress, AWS, Docker, Lando, Kubernetes, AcumaticaKnow other languages? Tell us. If you're a badass Lisp hacker type, mention that too.Comfort in a Linux shell for day-to-day tasks, plus some understanding of Linux hosting (bonus points if you've set up your own server, even if nobody else cared)Source control experience (Git, GitHub, etc.)An excellent internet connection and hardware that can survive an hour-long conference callFluency in English If you've built something you're proud of and can show it, we want to see it. What We Bring All offers of employment with Acro Commerce are contingent on successfully completing a criminal background check. A team you'll actually like. We take the work seriously and ourselves a lot less. Expect the occasional virtual happy hour, team competition, or reward for no particular reason. Fair warning: there are costumes. Check out our site and dissect how we do what we do.Ownership and impact. We aren't going to stick you in a corner with headphones on and call you "the IT department." Developers own this joint, and we get it. Your compensation package gets tailored to your location, experience, and your fit with our values, with hourly rates starting between $40 and $60 CAD.Autonomy over your schedule. Flexible start times, earned days off, and real remote work. Prefer to start at 8:00? 9:00? We'll work with you. Want every second Friday off? We've got a program for that. Work from your home office or from our Kelowna HQ- your call. (Some client contracts require staff to be located in Canada, so most positions need you to be legally able to work here.)Professional development: We might live and breathe software development, but we are also really passionate about our team's personal development, too. We love to learn and are always striving to be the best version of ourselves; whether it's training on the latest technology or learning how to become a better delegator, we will help you improve your skills and hit your goals. All careers come with a 30-day no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. If you are in any way unsatisfied with your career, we will return you to the workforce at absolutely NO COST to you (minus shipping and handling).
