SFI is responsible for providing full life cycle software development / DevOps for a federal agency.
Summary Of Major Job Functions
The position will focus on developing, enhancing, maintaining, and automating web applications and data-processing workflows.
The successful candidate will have strong software engineering fundamentals, analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience working across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
The position will primarily involve Python development, web applications, databases and SQL, process automation, and software quality control.
Experience with GIS and geospatial applications is beneficial, but strong software engineering skills and the ability to learn and apply new technologies are the primary requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
Software Engineering: Design, develop, test, maintain, and enhance software applications using established software engineering principles and practices.Web Applications: Develop and maintain modern web applications.
The current environment uses Vue.js, so experience with Vue or other modern web frameworks and the ability to apply transferable framework concepts are important.Python & Automation: Develop Python applications and automated workflows to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and support Census product creation and delivery.Analysis & Problem Solving: Analyze business and technical requirements, understand existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop logical and maintainable solutions.Databases & SQL: Develop and maintain database-driven applications and workflows, including writing and troubleshooting SQL queries.SDLC & Testing: Participate throughout the SDLC, including requirements analysis, design, development, code reviews, testing, integration, deployment, maintenance, and documentation.Quality Control: Support software quality control and testing activities, including identifying defects and integrating QC into automated workflows where appropriate.Application Enhancement: Maintain and enhance existing applications, including front-end improvements, extension of capabilities, and potential modernization or redevelopment.Collaboration: Work closely with Census staff, developers, analysts, and other technical teams to develop and implement effective software solutions.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent7+ years of professional software engineering or software development experience.5+ years of professional Python development experience.3+ years of web application development experience using modern web technologies and frameworks.Strong understanding of software engineering principles, SDLC practices, and application design.Experience working with relational databases and SQLExperience working in both Linux and Windows environmentsStrong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
