The Role  Reporting to the Team Lead, Software Development, the Senior Software Developer designs, builds, and operates the core services underpinning Evo, Seequent's cloud-based geoscience platform. This hybrid Calgary role leads the delivery of reliable, secure, and scalable backend systems for data organization, permission management, auditability, and external integrations, while providing technical guidance and mentorship to team members. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:  Design and architect complex software applications, components, and services within Evo's microservices environment. Build, test, document, refactor, and operate scalable backend services using Python, FastAPI, Kubernetes, and GCP. Develop reliable platform capabilities for data organization, permission management, auditability, and integrations with external platforms. Evaluate design alternatives and trade-offs, and communicate solutions that meet functional, security, performance, and scalability requirements. Establish and promote software development methods, tools, standards, automated testing, and secure engineering practices across the team. Plan and coordinate releases across teams, ensuring quality, security, compliance, and effective stakeholder communication. Define and deliver small projects or sub-projects, managing scope, schedules, risks, quality, resources, and stakeholder involvement. Lead design and code reviews, improve existing processes and products, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members. Contribute occasionally to frontend platform and administrative capabilities using modern web technologies. To be successful in this role, you should have:  Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Seven or more years of experience in relevant software development roles. Experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable RESTful APIs, ideally using Python and FastAPI. Strong experience with cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure and deploying services in Kubernetes-based containerized environments. Experience with microservices architecture, service design, observability, inter-service communication, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform. Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automated tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers using tools such as Pytest and Playwright. Familiarity with React and TypeScript, plus an interest in emerging development practices including AI-assisted or agent-driven workflows. Ability to work autonomously on complex issues, influence stakeholders, collaborate across functions, and communicate technical concepts clearly.
