About The Role
The Data and AI Technology (DAT) Engineering team at BMO is seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our dynamic group.
This role involves leading the end-to-end development of data and AI products that support the bank's digital-first strategy, regulatory compliance, and risk management objectives.
As a key member of the team, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, data scientists, and other technical teams to design, develop, and implement scalable data solutions.
Your expertise will help translate complex business requirements into robust data architectures, ensuring the delivery of actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong technical leadership, problem-solving skills, and a passion for innovation.
Qualifications
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in data engineering or related fields, complemented by formal IT education and certifications.
Proficiency in ETL/ELT development, data warehousing concepts, and hands-on experience with SQL, NoSQL, Python, Spark, and Scala are essential.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, along with experience using services like SSIS, Glue, Hadoop, and Netezza, is highly desirable.
Candidates should have a strong understanding of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets in both batch and streaming contexts.
Knowledge of AI principles, including GenAI, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and AI-powered SDLC tools, is advantageous.
Additionally, experience working within Agile frameworks and utilizing project management tools like JIRA will be beneficial.
A demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements is also preferred.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning, design, development, testing, implementation, documentation, and ongoing support of data and AI products to meet business needs.Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate complex functional and non-functional requirements into scalable data solutions.Provide guidance on technical design standards and ensure alignment with organizational roadmaps and best practices.Offer technical mentorship and guidance to junior and intermediate developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.Identify, track, and perform regression testing on defects to ensure high-quality deliverables.Lead initiatives for process improvements aimed at enhancing delivery, deployment, and operational efficiency.Accelerate development cycles by creating reusable frameworks, automation scripts, and standardized code components.Contribute to the development of a strong technical community through mentoring, knowledge sharing sessions, and best practice documentation.
