The Role  Reporting to the Team Lead, Software Development, the Senior Software Developer designs, develops, and delivers rich web-based applications for visualizing complex geoscience data. Working on the 3D Visualization team, this role provides technical leadership across frontend architecture and supporting APIs and services, partnering with UX designers and developers to solve complex UI, data-performance, and scientific-visualization challenges. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:  Design and architect complex frontend applications, components, and UI systems that deliver intuitive, performant, and scalable user experiences. Build, test, document, and maintain complex frontend features using modern JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks. Develop backend services, RESTful APIs, and data-integration layers that support frontend functionality and visualization workflows. Create reusable UI components and frontend systems that integrate cleanly with backend services and rendering platforms. Communicate design decisions and technical trade-offs covering scalability, accessibility, security, rendering performance, frameworks, and tooling. Build prototypes and proofs of concept across UI and service layers to validate workflows, performance, and technical feasibility. Apply coding standards, WCAG accessibility requirements, performance targets, automated testing, and full-stack engineering practices consistently. Coordinate with UX, backend, visualization, QA, and product partners to deliver user-facing functionality and manage readiness, risks, and dependencies. Lead design and code reviews, mentor team members, and improve UI patterns, workflows, development practices, and long-term maintainability. To be successful in this role, you should have:  Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Seven or more years of software development experience, with a strong emphasis on frontend or full-stack development. Advanced JavaScript and TypeScript experience and extensive experience building complex web applications with modern frameworks such as React, Vue, or Svelte. Strong knowledge of frontend application architecture, state management, component-based design, browser capabilities, and web-performance optimization. Solid experience designing and implementing backend services and RESTful APIs. Experience with modern build tools, testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and accessibility standards including WCAG. Experience with 3D graphics, WebGL, visualization libraries such as Three.js or CesiumJS, high-performance rendering, or large datasets is a strong asset. Ability to work autonomously, manage complex technical risks, and collaborate across design, product, backend, and visualization teams.
