As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering within Optum Technology, you will lead and mentor platform engineering teams dedicated to VPay applications and shared services.
In this role, you will drive platform engineering strategy, architecture standards, and modernization initiatives, combining hands-on technical guidance with strategic people management.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across Product, Architecture, Security, and Infrastructure to design and deploy scalable, cloud-native .NET solutions that support business-critical payment platforms and operations.
Additionally, you will leverage enterprise-approved AI tools and modern engineering practices to streamline workflows, optimize software delivery, and drive continuous technical innovation.

as you take on some tough challenges.
For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C.
area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead and mentor .NET platform engineering teams, providing technical leadership, career development, and performance managementDefine and drive the platform engineering strategy, architecture standards, and technology roadmap for VPay applications and shared servicesOversee the design, development, and support of scalable .NET/C# solutions, APIs, and cloud-native platformsDrive platform modernization initiatives, including cloud adoption, Kubernetes, CI/CD automation, and DevOps best practicesLeverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvementEvaluate emerging trends to inform solution design and strategic innovationEstablish engineering standards for security, performance, reliability, and code qualityPartner with Product, Architecture, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver business-critical initiativesManage technical debt reduction, vulnerability remediation, and platform stability improvementsEnsure compliance with enterprise security, privacy, and regulatory requirementsLead release planning, production support, incident management, and operational excellence efforts

Required Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience with solid expertise in C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET, and API development5+ years of engineering leadership experience managing software development teamsExperience with SQL Server, distributed systems, performance optimization, and observability toolsSolid experience with cloud platforms (Azure or AWS), Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and cloud-native architecturesSolid knowledge of secure software development, application security, and regulatory compliance requirementsDeep understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and platform engineering principles
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience; Master's degree Experience leading large-scale modernization and digital transformation initiatives in an enterprise environmentExperience utilizing approved AI tools or modern productivity platforms to enhance software engineering workflowsProven excellent communication, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skillsAll employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc.

The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment.
