Highlights
Opportunity to improve engineering foundations, build scalable tools, influence architecture, and help teams deliver reliable mobile applications.
Description
Senior Software Engineer | Mobile Platforms & Developer Tooling
Build better engineering tools, strengthen release quality and help teams deliver reliable applications at scale.
Circuit is partnering with an established technology business to recruit a Senior Software Engineer focused on the foundations supporting its native mobile applications.
You’ll work across Android and iOS, while helping teams align shared engineering practices and architectural approaches across mobile and web platforms.
The scope covers application architecture, developer tooling, delivery automation and the visibility engineers need to understand application health.
What you’ll work on
You’ll tackle engineering challenges that affect multiple teams, from unreliable builds and slow release workflows to recurring crashes and inconsistent technical patterns.
Key areas include:
Developer tooling and architecture: Build shared frameworks, reusable tooling and automated architectural checks that help teams maintain consistent, scalable codebases.Build and release automation: Improve CI/CD workflows, test execution, dependency management and distribution to the Google Play and Apple App Stores.Performance and reliability: Investigate application errors, crashes and performance bottlenecks, alongside build failures and flaky tests.Observability: Strengthen logging, metrics, crash reporting and profiling so engineers can identify issues and understand their causes.Platform infrastructure: Support cloud integrations and infrastructure automation used in mobile development and delivery.Technical collaboration: Work with Android, iOS and web engineers, contribute to technical planning and coach others on effective platform practices.
Experience we’re looking for
You’ll bring strong native mobile development experience, including deep Android expertise and working knowledge of iOS engineering, build and release systems.
You’ll also have delivered improvements to the tools, frameworks or processes other engineers use.
You should be comfortable explaining the problem, your technical approach and the impact on delivery or quality.
Relevant technical experience includes:
Android: Gradle, multi-module project configuration, Android Studio and Kotlin development tooling.iOS: Xcode, release automation through tools such as Fastlane, and distribution through TestFlight.CI/CD: Ownership and optimisation of pipelines using platforms such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite or Bitrise.Dependencies and packages: Managing shared libraries and artefacts using tools such as Maven repositories, Swift Package Manager or cloud package registries.Monitoring and diagnostics: Application performance monitoring, crash reporting and profiling, with tools such as Firebase, Datadog or Bugsnag.Cloud: AWS or comparable services supporting development workflows, automated testing and delivery infrastructure. You’ll understand how to introduce quality controls throughout development, integration, build and release, including automated tests, architectural checks and release gates.
Additional experience
Experience with macOS build infrastructure, device farms, compiler optimisation or JVM performance tuning would be valuable.
Exposure to Kotlin Multiplatform, React Native or Flutter would also be useful.
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to make improvements that benefit several engineering teams.
You’ll combine hands-on technical work with the chance to influence how applications are built, monitored and released.
It will suit someone who enjoys platform engineering, understands developers’ needs and takes satisfaction in making complex workflows simpler and more dependable.
