Imagine...
Imagine working on strategic Application360 Data Products that provide trusted, integrated insights into Rabobank's application landscape.
As a Senior Data Engineer within Tech4Engineering, you will play a key role in strengthening the current data products, their operational foundation, and the future target-state architecture.
You will join the InSync squad and work closely with Business Analysts, Architects, Product Owners, and multiple squads across Tech4Engineering.
You will support the evolution from the current Azure Synapse implementation towards a future Databricks-based platform.
This role combines hands-on engineering, data product development, platform stewardship, and solution evolution.
You and your job
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be responsible for understanding, maintaining, and further developing Application360 Data Products running on Azure Synapse.
The current scope includes ownership-related data and capabilities, while the broader objective is to create reliable and scalable data products that support an integrated view of Rabobank's application landscape.
In parallel, you will help define and implement the roadmap towards the target-state architecture within Tech4Engineering.
You will contribute to:
- Knowledge transfer and a sustainable transition of technical and functional responsibilities.
- Analysis, improvement, and expansion of existing Application360 Data Products.
- Development of scalable data pipelines, APIs, and reusable data components.
- Further development of ownership-related capabilities as part of the wider Application360 landscape.
- Migration preparations and platform evolution from Azure Synapse towards Databricks.
- Implementation of data engineering patterns aligned with Medallion Architecture.
What you will do
- Take technical responsibility for Application360 Data Products within the InSync squad.
- Design, build, maintain, and optimise data pipelines using Azure Synapse and Databricks.
- Analyse the current implementation and identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, data quality, and maintainability.
- Work closely with Business Analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Support the definition and implementation of the target-state architecture for Application360, including ownership-related data products.
- Create and refine PBIs for knowledge transfer, technical debt reduction, operational improvements, and future development.
- Develop scalable ELT/ETL frameworks and reusable components using Medallion Architecture principles.
- Build and maintain APIs and data products that enable consistent access to Application360 information.
- Participate in architecture discussions and technical design decisions.
- Improve CI/CD processes, testing standards, monitoring, data quality controls, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with the Berlix and Botanix squads on product evolution, shared capabilities, and future ownership of features.
Required experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer.
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Experience with Azure Databricks and Lakehouse architectures.
- Strong SQL and Python development skills.
- Experience with PySpark and distributed data processing.
- Experience designing and implementing ELT/ETL pipelines.
- Experience with data modelling and data warehousing concepts.
- Experience working in Azure cloud environments.
- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong communication skills and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently, take responsibility, and drive work forward.
Preferred experience
- Experience applying Medallion Architecture patterns.
- Experience with Delta Lake and Unity Catalog.
- Experience supporting or executing platform migrations.
- Experience building and operating data products in large enterprise environments.
- Understanding of API-based integrations.
- Experience with application landscape, configuration, or ownership data is an advantage.
- Banking or financial services experience.
What makes this role unique
This is not a standard data engineering position.
You will help shape Application360 Data Products that provide a broader and more coherent view of Rabobank's application landscape.
Ownership-related information is an important part of this scope, but the role extends beyond a single ownership model.
You will work at the intersection of business context, platform engineering, and data architecture, helping squads move from the current state towards scalable, reusable, and future-ready data products.
