About Swish Labs Swish Labs is building the AI-native infrastructure for modern mortgage lending. We’re creating a unified platform that replaces fragmented software, manual workflows, and disconnected systems with intelligent automation—helping lenders originate loans faster, operate more efficiently, and deliver a more transparent experience for homeowners. We’re a small, highly collaborative team, which means engineers at Swish Labs have meaningful ownership. You won’t just execute tickets—you’ll help shape the product, architecture, and technical decisions behind the platform. The Role We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the core infrastructure powering our mortgage platform. You’ll design, build, and maintain backend systems that support the lifecycle of a mortgage—from application and verification through underwriting, decisioning, and funding. You’ll work closely with product, design, and engineering leadership to solve complex problems in a highly regulated and data-intensive industry. As an early member of the engineering team, you’ll also play an important role in establishing engineering standards, improving system reliability, influencing technical direction, and mentoring future engineers. What You’ll Work On Design and build scalable backend services in Go that power complex, data-intensive loan workflowsDevelop APIs and integrations with credit bureaus, verification providers, document systems, pricing engines, and other mortgage infrastructureBuild automation and decisioning systems that transform AI and model outputs into reliable, explainable workflowsDesign systems with strong auditability, data integrity, security, and regulatory requirements in mindImprove platform performance, observability, testing, and production reliabilityHelp define technical architecture and engineering best practices as the platform scalesCollaborate directly with product and design to turn complex mortgage workflows into simple, reliable softwareReview code, mentor engineers, and help build a strong engineering culture What We’re Looking For 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant ownership of production systemsStrong backend engineering experience, including API design, distributed systems, relational databases, and system architectureExperience building scalable, reliable, production-grade applicationsExperience with cloud infrastructure, containerized applications, and modern deployment environmentsStrong understanding of system performance, failure modes, monitoring, and observabilityA high standard for correctness, testing, auditability, and maintainable codeStrong technical judgment and the ability to communicate tradeoffs clearlyComfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment with a high degree of ownership and autonomy Strong Plus Experience in mortgage, lending, fintech, banking, or another regulated industryExperience working with Go in productionExperience building workflow, decisioning, automation, or AI-enabled systemsExperience integrating with third-party APIs and complex external data providersExperience at an early-stage or high-growth technology company A computer science degree is not required.
