Description

Senior Product Engineer (Full Stack) Location: Phoenix, AZ or Remote (United States, excluding California and New York) Employment Type: Full-time Seniority Level: Senior. 5+ years of professional software development experience. Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 USD + equity About the Role We're looking for a Senior Product Engineer who wants to own what gets built, not just how it gets built. You'll take features from a rough idea to working software in production: shaping the problem with stakeholders, writing the requirements, making scope and UX decisions, and building it yourself across the full stack. TurboVets is building an AI-powered platform that helps veterans and their families access the benefits they've earned, including disability claims, education, healthcare, employment, and VA loans. The platform is free for veterans. Your work will directly shape how people who served navigate systems that have historically been slow and difficult. You'll own product and technical decisions for the areas you work on, partnering closely with product and engineering leadership on direction. The role reports to both the Chief Technology Officer and the Chief Product Officer. Tech Stack Frontend: Angular, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS Backend: NestJS, Node.js, GraphQL, REST APIs Data: PostgreSQL DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions Monorepo: Nx Tooling: AI-assisted development (Cursor, Claude Code) Responsibilities Product - Turn stakeholder input, user feedback, and QA findings into clear user stories with testable acceptance criteria - Make scope, prioritization, and UX decisions for your area, and push back when a request isn't solving the real problem - Work directly with internal stakeholders, partners, and veteran users to understand needs - Verify that what ships actually works for users, not just that it merged Engineering - Design and build full-stack features across Angular and NestJS/GraphQL - Model and optimize relational data in PostgreSQL - Implement authentication, authorization, and role-based access patterns - Integrate with third-party and government data sources and APIs - Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests Team - Review code and help raise the quality bar - Mentor other engineers and contribute to how the team works - Document decisions, APIs, and architecture clearly for people without context Qualifications Required - 5+ years of professional full-stack development experience - Strong TypeScript experience; Angular and NestJS strongly preferred, though strong engineers from comparable stacks are welcome - Solid backend fundamentals: API design, relational data modeling, query optimization - Demonstrated product ownership: you've written requirements, made scope decisions, or owned a feature from idea to launch - Clear written communication in specs, pull requests, and async discussion - Comfortable using AI coding tools effectively, and verifying their output - Legally authorized to work in the United States Bonus - Experience with Nx or other monorepo architectures - Background in employment, recruiting, benefits, healthcare, or other regulated or government-adjacent domains - Prior startup experience or experience as an early engineer - Prior U.S. military service or experience working with veteran-serving organizations Who You Are - You take ownership without waiting to be asked, and you're comfortable making the call when the path isn't obvious - You can tell the difference between what a stakeholder asks for and what they actually need - You communicate clearly with engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike - You care about the mission and the people using what you build Work Location This role is based in Phoenix, AZ, with remote candidates welcome from anywhere in the United States. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor visas for this role. Travel: Up to 15%. Remote team members travel to Phoenix for one week every 6 to 8 weeks, with travel covered by TurboVets. This posting reflects a genuine, currently open position. Compensation & Benefits - Salary: $120,000 - $160,000 USD, based on experience - Equity (stock options) - Comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision) - Company-paid travel for team on-sites in Phoenix - Flexible work policies Equal Opportunity TurboVets is an equal opportunity employer.
