Description
About Lasso Informatics
Research data is wild.
It pours in from brain scans, genome sequencing, EEG and eye-tracking, biospecimens and wearables that track sleep and movement, across dozens of sites and years of study.
Lasso Informatics ropes it in: our platform pulls it all into one place so researchers around the world can stop fighting with their data and get to discoveries faster.
That is where our name comes from.
A lasso brings something wild under control, and that is the job.
The people who do it are Wranglers, and we are quite choosy about who earns the title.
Wranglers expect a lot of themselves, make everyone around them better and never stop learning.
We move fast, we have fun and we keep the bar high.

Want to Be a Wrangler? Here's What We Look For
You hold yourself to a high standard and bring real technical rigour. You make the people around you better. You stay curious and keep learning. You see a problem and start solving it, without waiting to be asked. You think in root causes, not patches, and you notice how a change in one system ripples through the rest. You write clean, honest documentation that someone else can run with. You stay calm and clear-headed in an incident, and you turn it into a lasting fix afterward. You take security, compliance and the trust researchers and study participants (families and children) place in our platform and services extremely seriously.
About the Role
We are looking for someone who can walk into an imperfect infrastructure environment and make it materially better, without waiting to be told how.
You will own our AWS and GCP environments end to end: access, reliability, cost and security posture.
You will also build out our observability practice on Datadog from a strong foundation, and lead incident response when things break.
This is a hands-on ownership role, not a ticket queue.
What You'll Do
Cloud Infrastructure
Own and operate multi-account AWS and GCP environments, covering access, reliability, cost and security posture.Lead capacity planning, patching and cost optimization proactively, before they become problems.Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible or equivalent tools.Identify and remediate security risks, misconfigurations and reliability gaps.Observability and Reliability
Own and evolve our Datadog observability stack across every environment.Build strong coverage across logs, metrics and alerting for production systems, and keep improving the signal-to-noise ratio.Build and maintain a unified operational dashboard with real-time system visibility.Drive measurable improvements in MTTD and MTTR within your first six months.Incident Response
Lead incident response, root cause analysis and post-mortems.Improve system resilience by fixing root causes, not symptoms.Find and close monitoring and operational gaps before they surface as incidents.Documentation
Maintain production-grade documentation for critical systems: architecture diagrams, SOPs and incident runbooks.Write documentation that lets other engineers execute independently, and keep it aligned with how the systems actually run.
Qualifications
Required
5+ years of infrastructure or cloud systems experience, with substantial recent hands-on AWS ownership.Strong hands-on experience with core AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, IAM, VPC and similar).Working experience with GCP (Compute Engine, GKE, IAM and similar).Experience building or significantly evolving an observability stack, Datadog preferred.A track record of operating with autonomy: identifying problems, designing solutions and driving outcomes without waiting for direction.Experience in a regulated or compliance-driven environment (HIPAA, GDPR, NIST, SOC 2 or equivalent).Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python or equivalent).Experience with infrastructure as code, Terraform preferred.Ability to produce clear, production-quality technical documentation.Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Preferred
AWS or GCP certifications.Kubernetes experience (EKS, GKE).Experience scaling infrastructure in a high-growth SaaS environment. Background in healthcare, life sciences or government-facing systems.Experience as a senior or leading technical voice on a team.
