Senior Data Engineer

Role: Data Engineer Location: Toronto, ON Type: Contract Rate: CAD65/hr - CAD75/hr We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer with a strong background in Asset Management and modern cloud-based data platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing, and enhancing enterprise-scale data solutions that enable advanced analytics, data-driven decision-making, and scalable data products. This role requires hands-on expertise in Snowflake, strong cloud engineering capabilities, and experience delivering end-to-end data solutions within investment or asset management environments. Key Responsibilities Data Engineering & Solution Design Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, data warehouses, and cloud-based data platforms.Build and optimize data ingestion, transformation, and processing frameworks for structured and unstructured data.Develop high-performance data solutions that support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.Ensure data platforms are secure, scalable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.Platform & Cloud Engineering Leverage cloud-native technologies to build robust and highly available data ecosystems.Implement best practices for performance tuning, query optimization, and cost management within Snowflake.Partner with engineering teams to evaluate and implement emerging technologies and platform enhancements.Support automation, monitoring, and platform reliability initiatives.Data Governance & DevOps Establish and maintain strong data governance, quality, security, and compliance standards.Contribute to CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure automation practices.Monitor data workflows, troubleshoot issues, and proactively resolve platform bottlenecks.Drive continuous improvement across data engineering processes and delivery practices.Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with business stakeholders, analysts, architects, and product teams to understand requirements and deliver efficient technical solutions.Translate business needs into scalable data products and actionable insights.Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior team members.Required Qualifications Must-Have Skills 7+ years of experience in Asset Management (mandatory).Proven hands-on experience working within the Asset Management or Investment Management domain.Strong expertise with Snowflake, including:Data WarehousingQuery OptimizationPerformance TuningCost Governance7+ years of experience delivering large-scale data engineering and analytics initiatives.5+ years of experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, and exposure to Java or Scala.Experience building enterprise data lakes, data warehouses, and data pipelines.Expertise with data integration, ETL/ELT frameworks, and data orchestration tools.Experience with API design and microservices architecture.Strong understanding of modern data architecture and data lifecycle management.Preferred Technical Skills Experience with AWS services such as S3, EC2, EKS, Glue, Athena, Redshift, or similar cloud-native technologies.Experience with data visualization and analytics tools such as Power BI or Tableau.Exposure to AI/ML-enabled data platforms and modern data stack technologies.Familiarity with Hadoop, Oracle, or other enterprise data ecosystems.Soft Skills Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to influence technical decisions and drive engineering best practices.Proven experience working in cross-functional, fast-paced environments.Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills.Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
