Location: London, Hybrid 2 days a week from Office Role Summary We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer to design, develop, and support scalable enterprise applications using Java and Spring technologies. The ideal candidate should have strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience across the full development lifecycle, and the ability to work effectively in complex enterprise environments. The role will involve new feature development, collaboration with Business Analysts and business stakeholders, production support, and continuous improvement of application stability, performance, and monitoring. Day To Day Job Duties Design, develop, test, and implement new application functionality using Java and Spring/Spring Boot. Develop backend services, APIs, and reusable application components. Work closely with business stakeholders and Business Analysts to understand functional and non-functional requirements. Translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions. Design and integrate RESTful APIs with internal and external applications. Develop and optimize database queries and application data-access components. Investigate complex production incidents and perform root cause analysis. Implement permanent fixes for recurring production issues. Drive improvements in application stability, performance, monitoring, and observability. Participate in solution design, technical discussions, and code reviews. Develop unit and integration tests and ensure appropriate test coverage. Support application releases, deployments, and production readiness activities. Collaborate with QA, DevOps, infrastructure, and support teams throughout the development lifecycle. Follow Agile/Scrum and software engineering best practices. Basic Qualifications 7+ years of experience in Java application development and enterprise software engineering. 4+ years of experience with Spring/Spring Boot and backend application development. 3+ years of experience developing and integrating REST APIs and relational databases. 3+ years of experience across the full SDLC, including design, development, testing, deployment, and production support. Core Technical Skills Programming: JavaFrameworks: Spring, Spring BootAPI Development: REST APIs, System IntegrationDatabases: SQL, Relational DatabasesArchitecture: Object-Oriented Design, Design Patterns, Software Design PrinciplesTesting: Unit Testing, Integration TestingProduction Support: Incident Analysis, RCA, TroubleshootingEngineering: Git, CI/CD, Code ReviewsMonitoring: Application Monitoring, Logging, Observability Nice to Have Hands-on experience with Kotlin. Experience with Linux/Unix environments. Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized applications. Experience with Microservices and distributed application architecture. Experience with Docker and cloud-native application development. Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana. Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps. Experience supporting business-critical production applications. Strong understanding of application performance, resilience, and stability engineering. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
