About The Role Hampton Roads Transit is seeking a motivated and technically proficient Web Developer to join our Digital Services team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise web applications, public-facing websites, and custom business solutions. You will play a key part in creating seamless digital experiences that support HRT’s operational goals and community engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with modern web development technologies, content management systems, databases, and server environments. Collaboration is essential, as you will work closely with analysts, designers, stakeholders, and other technical teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality web solutions that align with business requirements and user expectations. Qualifications The ideal candidate should have a strong background in web development with a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience. Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and frameworks like React or Angular is essential. Experience with back-end development using languages such as PHP, Python, or Node.js is preferred. Familiarity with CMS platforms like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla is highly desirable. Candidates should have a solid understanding of database management systems, including MySQL, SQL Server, or similar. Knowledge of server environments, cloud hosting, and version control systems like Git is required. A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, along with certifications in relevant technologies. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment are critical for success in this role. Responsibilities Design, develop, and implement web applications and websites that meet organizational and user needs while adhering to best practices for security and performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver solutions on time and within budget. Maintain and update existing web platforms, troubleshoot issues, and optimize performance to ensure high availability and responsiveness. Participate in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance processes to uphold high standards of code quality and functionality. Stay current with emerging web technologies, frameworks, and industry trends to recommend improvements and innovations. Assist in the integration of third-party APIs and services to enhance web capabilities. Document technical specifications, processes, and procedures to ensure maintainability and knowledge sharing. Support the deployment, configuration, and management of web hosting environments, including cloud-based solutions. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and stakeholders as needed.
