Business Systems Developer & Analyst - LOCATED IN HOUSTON TEXAS ERP • SQL Server • Python • Manufacturing Systems Position Summary Axon Energy Services is seeking a Business Systems Developer & Analyst to support, maintain, and improve the company's ERP environment, reporting systems, internal applications, and business processes. This is a hands-on technical and analytical role that works closely with Accounting, Operations, Sales, Quality, Engineering, Purchasing, and other departments. The position combines ERP support, SQL development and data analysis with Python application development and advanced Excel reporting. This is not primarily an IT infrastructure or help-desk position. Axon utilizes outside IT resources for much of its network, server, and Microsoft 365 administration. The primary focus of this position is understanding how the company's business systems and data support day-to-day operations and developing solutions that make those processes more efficient, accurate, and useful. Key Responsibilities ERP & Business Systems Support and develop a strong understanding of Axon's ERP system and related business processes.Assist users with ERP-related questions, problems, reporting needs, and process improvements.Understand the relationships between customers, sales orders, work orders, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, costing, shipping, and accounting.Investigate ERP issues by analyzing both the application behavior and underlying database data.Work with users and management to identify opportunities to improve processes through better use of existing systems.Assist with testing and implementation of ERP changes and enhancements.Coordinate with ERP support resources when vendor assistance is required.SQL Server & Data Analysis Develop and maintain Microsoft SQL Server queries used for reporting, analysis, troubleshooting, and internal applications.Work with relational databases containing manufacturing, sales, inventory, purchasing, costing, and financial information.Develop complex queries using joins, aggregations, temporary tables, subqueries, CTEs, and other T-SQL techniques.Investigate data relationships and discrepancies within the ERP database.Create reusable reporting datasets and automated data processes.Translate business questions into meaningful data analysis.Validate results and explain findings to both technical and non-technical users.Python & Internal Application Development Maintain and enhance existing Python-based internal applications.Develop new internal tools and applications when business needs cannot be efficiently addressed through the ERP or existing software.Develop and maintain web-based applications using Python and Flask.Work with SQL Server and other data sources from Python applications.Develop automation for repetitive processes, reporting, document generation, data processing, and scheduled tasks.Maintain existing application code and troubleshoot production issues.Document internally developed applications and processes.Excel & Reporting Develop advanced Excel reports and analytical tools for users and management.Create automated Excel exports and professionally formatted workbooks from ERP and other company data.Utilize advanced formulas, lookups, filtering, data manipulation, and other Excel capabilities.Assist users with analyzing large datasets and developing repeatable reporting processes.Reduce repetitive manual spreadsheet work through SQL, Python, or other automation when appropriate.Business Process Improvement Meet directly with users to understand business problems and requirements.Evaluate existing workflows and identify opportunities for automation or simplification.Translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.Work across departments rather than focusing on a single functional area.Help management use company data to better understand operations and make informed decisions.Evaluate whether a problem is best addressed through the ERP, SQL/reporting, Excel, an internal application, or a change in business process.Technical Coordination Work with the company's managed IT provider when infrastructure or server assistance is required.Maintain enough understanding of the application and database environment to identify and communicate technical issues effectively.Coordinate with software vendors and outside technical resources when necessary.Qualifications Strongly Preferred Strong Microsoft SQL Server / T-SQL skills.Experience working with an ERP or other integrated business system.Experience analyzing relational databases and understanding relationships between business data.Strong Microsoft Excel skills.Demonstrated ability to understand business processes and translate business needs into technical solutions.Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.Ability to communicate effectively with users ranging from shop-floor and administrative personnel to executive management.Ability to independently research and solve unfamiliar problems.Development Experience Experience with one or more of the following is strongly preferred: PythonFlask or similar web application frameworksSQLAlchemy or other database access/ORM technologiesHTML/CSS/BootstrapJavaScriptAutomated report and document generationScheduled/background processesCandidates with strong business systems, SQL, and development experience using another programming language or framework may also be considered. Highly Desirable Experience with Visibility ERP.Experience in a manufacturing environment.Understanding of manufacturing concepts including work orders, bills of material, routings, inventory, purchasing, costing, and sales order processing.Experience developing internal business applications.Experience with financial, operational, sales, or inventory analytics.Experience automating Excel reporting and data processing.Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is not simply a programmer, database developer, or ERP administrator. This person enjoys learning how a business operates and using technology to solve practical problems. They should be comfortable receiving a question or problem from a department, investigating the underlying business process and data, and determining the best solution. On a typical day, this could mean troubleshooting an ERP issue, writing a SQL query, analyzing manufacturing or sales data, modifying a Python/Flask application, producing an Excel report, or meeting with a department to understand a process that needs improvement. The successful candidate does not need to know every system used by Axon on their first day. Strong SQL and analytical abilities, experience with business systems, curiosity, and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems are more important than experience with every specific technology.
