Role Overview 💼 We're hiring a Front End Engineer to own the UI of Checkmate's shopper-facing products: our mobile app and desktop browser extension. You'll pair day to day with our Product Design Lead, turning product ideas and designs into polished, intuitive interfaces that shoppers use every day. This is a UI-focused seat on a small team that ships quickly. If you care about how a feature feels as much as whether it works, and you'd rather get a first version in front of shoppers than wait on a perfect spec, this is your seat. What You'll Do ⚡ Build the Shopper Experience Build and ship UI across the Checkmate mobile app and desktop browser extension, the two places shoppers find and use their offersTurn designs into production UI that matches them down to the spacing, type, and motionOwn the details that make a product feel finished: loading, empty, and error states, transitions, and interaction feedback Partner with Design and Marketing Work side by side with our Product Design Lead to go from idea to shipped, prototyping in code when that's faster than a mockupPartner with our Head of Marketing to bring launches, campaigns, and new offer experiences to life in the product quicklySpeak up with a better approach when something will look, feel, or perform worse than it could Make the Extension Feel Right Everywhere Build extension UI that shows up cleanly on top of thousands of retailer sites, without breaking the page or getting in the shopper's wayEnsure the extension experience fits seamlessly within a shopping journey for our millions of usersKeep the app and extension fast, lightweight, and consistent across browsers and devices Grow the Component System Build and maintain shared, reusable components so new features come together quickly and look consistent across every surfaceHelp set our front-end standards through code reviews, accessibility, and performanceUse AI tools (Cursor, Claude, and the like) to move faster while keeping full ownership of quality Requirements Who You Are 🧬 You have a strong eye for UI, and you notice when something is a few pixels off, a beat too slow, or just doesn't feel rightYou start with the user's problem and you care deeply whether what you shipped works well and looks appealingYou'd rather ship a first version and iterate than spend weeks polishing a PRYou love building closely with designers and marketers, and people find you easy to work withYou use AI tools thoughtfully to move faster without dropping quality What You Bring 🎒 3-5 years building production front-end, with a portfolio of shipped consumer UI we can see, use, or dig intoStrong skills in TypeScript and ReactExperience shipping UI for mobile apps and/or browser extensions in React NativeSolid fundamentals in responsive layout, animation, accessibility, and front-end performanceA track record of building reusable components that other engineers enjoy usingClear communication with designers, marketers, and engineers, in writing and in reviewsBonus: App Store and Google Play release experience, Chrome extension (Manifest V3) experience, motion and animation chops, or time at a consumer shopping or rewards product Why This Role Matters Our app and extension are where shoppers meet the Checkmate network: where the right offer shows up at the right moment and a shopper decides to buy.
