Join Genmab’s Discovery Data Science team in Utrecht and help turn AI models into reliable tools that scientists can use in their everyday work! In this hands-on engineering role, you will help develop, deploy and maintain applications and workflows that support antibody discovery. Your work could involve connecting a model to a data platform, automating a data processing task, or improving an application based on feedback from the scientists using it. Across these projects, your contribution will help make AI solutions accessible, useful and dependable. You will join an international team of data scientists, software engineers and research scientists who bring different technical and scientific perspectives. Working closely with a senior AI Solutions Engineer, you will take on defined technical tasks, receive guidance on priorities and implementation, and gradually build your experience across the development and deployment lifecycle. You will contribute your own ideas, ask questions and work through technical challenges with colleagues. Your main focus will be software engineering and implementation, taking promising models and prototypes and helping them work reliably within our existing systems. You will also stay close to the people using what you build, gathering feedback and making improvements together. Some grounding in life sciences or scientific research would be helpful, whether gained through your studies, projects or work experience. You do not need specialist knowledge of biology or antibody discovery, but an interest in understanding the scientific context will help you connect your engineering work to the team’s needs. This role offers the opportunity to build on that foundation while developing your technical expertise and contributing to research into new antibody therapies. This position is based in Utrecht, with 32–40 working hours per week and approximately 2–3 days per week in the office. Anticipated start date: 1 January 2027. Responsibilities Build and improve AI-enabled applications and workflows in collaboration with data scientists, software engineers and Discovery colleagues.Help turn research prototypes into maintainable software that can be used reliably in day-to-day scientific work.Develop data processing, model inference and automation pipelines, connecting them with existing APIs, data platforms and scientific applications.Support the deployment and maintenance of AI and machine learning models, including cloud and container-based environments.Write clear, testable Python code and contribute to documentation, code reviews, version control and automated testing and deployment.Monitor applications and workflows, investigate technical issues and work with colleagues to resolve them.Gather feedback from scientific users and translate it into practical improvements to the tools you help build.Explore relevant AI technologies, including generative AI and AI agents, with guidance from experienced colleagues.Share what you learn and contribute to technical discussions within the team. Requirements We are looking for someone early in their engineering career who enjoys building things, solving practical problems and learning with others. What You Will Bring A BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Engineering or a related technical or quantitative discipline.Relevant experience developing software applications. As a guide, this could be around 1–3 years of professional experience, or substantial experience gained through academic projects, internships, open-source contributions or personal projects.Good Python programming skills and familiarity with software engineering best practices, including version control (Git), testing, documentation and writing modular, maintainable code that others can understand and use.Hands-on experience working with machine learning models or large language models (LLMs), for example training or fine-tuning a model, running inference, or building an application around a model’s API.A practical approach to troubleshooting, including exploring possible solutions and asking colleagues for input when needed.A collaborative approach and the ability to explain your work, ask questions and discuss feedback with people from different backgrounds.An interest in applying engineering skills to scientific research.Fluent English, both written and spoken. Additional Experience That Would Be Helpful We do not expect you to have experience in all of the following, and there will be opportunities to develop these skills in the role: Cloud platforms such as AWS, container tools such as Docker, and CI/CD workflows.APIs, databases and data processing pipelines.Deploying, monitoring or maintaining machine learning applications.Building generative AI applications or working with AI agents.Some grounding in life sciences or scientific research, gained through your studies, projects or work experience. Specialist knowledge of biology or antibody discovery is not required. The proposed gross annual/monthly base salary range for this position, in the primary location, based on a full time schedule is: EUR59.568,00---89.352,00 The final salary offer will depend on several factors, including your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as discretionary bonuses and long-term incentives.
