Power BI Developer

Upside Analytics is hiring a Power BI Developer to join its delivery team in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In this role you will build Power BI reports, semantic models, and DAX calculations for financial services clients, including banks, hedge funds, and asset managers, across the US, UK, Europe, and Asia. About Upside Analytics Upside Analytics is a data and analytics consulting company. We work mainly with financial services organizations, including banks, hedge funds, and asset managers, as well as other data-intensive businesses. We help clients replace fragmented Excel-based processes and legacy reporting environments with modern analytics platforms built on Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Databricks, and SQL. Our delivery team is based in Almaty. Our clients and projects are international. What the Power BI Developer will do You will join a team of Power BI Developers, Data Engineers, Business Analysts, and Project Managers. You will work across the full analytics lifecycle, from understanding a client's business problem to delivering and supporting a production solution. Your responsibilities will include: Designing and developing Power BI reports and dashboards for client projectsBuilding scalable, well-structured Power BI semantic modelsWriting DAX measures and analytical calculationsPreparing and transforming data with Power QueryUsing SQL to retrieve, validate, investigate, and analyze dataWorking with financial, operational, performance, and management dataTranslating business requirements into clear analytical solutionsInvestigating data inconsistencies and validating report outputs against source systemsImproving report performance, usability, and maintainabilityWorking with Data Engineers on source data, pipelines, and data modelsTaking part in requirement discussions, testing, deployment, and production supportHow this role differs from a typical Power BI Developer role This is not an isolated reporting role. At Upside Analytics, Power BI Developers are expected to understand why a solution is being built, not only how to build it. In practice, that means you will: talk directly with the stakeholders who use your reports;ask questions when requirements are incomplete;check your numbers against source systems before they reach the client;stay involved after deployment through production support.You will see how analytics solutions are designed, built, deployed, and supported in live client environments. Required skills We care more about strong fundamentals than a long list of tools. Technical skills: Power BI, including building production-quality reportsDAX and analytical logicPower Query and data transformationSQL for analysis and data validationRelational databases and data modeling: fact and dimension tables, relationships, and star schemasTurning business requirements into structured analytical solutionsWorking style: Solving ambiguous problems independentlyTaking ownership of your work and checking its quality before it reaches the clientCuriosity about both the data and the business behind itEnglish requirements: B2 minimum, C1 preferred This role requires at least B2 English. C1 or strong professional working proficiency is highly preferred. English is a daily working language at Upside Analytics, not a formality. You may work directly with colleagues, project managers, technical specialists, and business stakeholders from the US, UK, Europe, and Asia. You should be comfortable: joining meetings and project calls in English;discussing technical and business requirements;explaining your work and defending your approach;asking clarifying questions when requirements are incomplete;writing clear messages, documentation, and project updates;communicating professionally in Slack, email, and other client channels.Preferred (not required) Experience with Microsoft FabricExperience in financial services, banking, asset management, or another data-intensive industryExperience working with international clients or distributed teamsGrowth at Upside Analytics Upside Analytics is building deep expertise in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and modern data platforms within its Almaty team.
