Product Engineering Intern

Join SoundSenseAI’s paid internship programme and learn to build useful software with AI tools, supported by experienced founders, product practitioners and engineers. This is the Product Engineering pathway, for people who most enjoy building and improving working software. We also offer a Product & Business pathway. All interns work across disciplines, and you may indicate interest in both when applying. What you will do • Turn a client or user problem into a simple technical plan. • Build features across data, application logic and user interfaces. • Prototype AI-enabled tools and workflows. • Use coding agents while maintaining tests and code quality. • Test, deploy, monitor and improve what you build. • Explain technical choices to colleagues and clients. You will work on an internal or client problem with a named supervisor. You will help take it from discovery to a usable result, show your work regularly, respond to feedback and document what you build and learn. We will agree learning goals and a concrete project outcome at the start. Client and production-system access depends on the project, placement length and security requirements. Interns will not be left solely responsible for critical client decisions or production systems. What we are looking for You understand software-engineering fundamentals and have built and shipped at least one project far enough for someone else to use, test or review. It could be an application, website, automation, prototype, data project, agent, university project or small business. We look for clear thinking about the problem and your choices, curiosity about users and business needs, clear communication, initiative and reliability. You should use AI thoughtfully and check its output. A computer science degree is not required. We do not require a particular degree subject, programming language or framework, a polished commercial product, or prior consulting experience. Students and graduates from technical and analytical subjects are welcome. Evidence that you can build matters more than your degree title. What you will learn You will learn to find the problem behind an initial request, decide what to build, buy or automate, and turn discovery into a focused plan and usable product. You will practise balancing user needs, business value, technical constraints and delivery speed while working with clients and a multidisciplinary team. Practical details • Paid, full-time placement, structured as a freelance engagement. • Choose 8–12 weeks or 9–12 months. • Start throughout the year, by agreement. • Remote-first. Applicants may be based in any country within two hours of GMT. In-person work and travel will be agreed in advance. • Competitive pay for an internship. Reliable, sustained commitment is expected, with regular progress reviews. Please wait for the invitation before sending your demo. Private projects are welcome; you can explain or demonstrate them without disclosing confidential information. The next stages are a short, time-boxed practical exercise in a SoundSenseAI-provided environment and a final case-study interview tailored to your pathway. We will explain in advance what activity is recorded during the exercise and how it will be used. Any exercise substantial enough to create useful work for SoundSenseAI will be paid.
