Senior Design Engineer – Structural Steel 📍 Wakefield, West Yorkshire 💼 Permanent | Full Time – 37.5 hours 💰 Competitive salary, depending on experience A structural steel design isn't finished when the calculations balance. It has to stand, it has to be buildable, it has to work with the fabrication process and it has to make sense commercially. That's where this role comes in. As Senior Design Engineer, you'll be responsible for developing safe, efficient and practical structural engineering solutions across a varied portfolio of steel projects. You'll work from early design concepts through to detailed engineering, making decisions that directly influence how the finished structure will be manufactured and constructed. The Role You'll work closely with clients, engineers, project teams and other professionals, taking construction drawings and specifications and turning them into practical structural solutions. You'll develop designs using industry-standard software, apply loadings, calculate stresses and load paths, and ensure structures meet the required technical, legal and safety standards. You'll also contribute to tenders and bids, provide technical input throughout projects and keep clients and senior management updated on progress. The work will cover everything from straightforward building frames through to more complex structural steel projects, so you'll need to be comfortable dealing with different design challenges rather than working from the same template every time.
