Senior AS400 Developer

We are looking for an experienced AS/400 Developer with strong hands-on expertise in RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE, and DB2/400. The role involves designing, developing, troubleshooting, and optimizing AS/400 applications while ensuring high code quality and reliable delivery. The candidate will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions, resolve client issues within defined SLAs, participate in code reviews and testing, and contribute to continuous improvement. The role also involves mentoring team members and sharing technical knowledge across the development team. Responsibilities Design and develop AS/400 modules, programs, components, and interfaces.Prepare detailed technical and design documents for AS/400 applications.Develop and maintain reusable components using RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE, and COBOL.Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root causes, and resolve client-reported issues within defined SLAs.Participate in estimation, planning, and project delivery activities.Conduct and participate in peer code reviews to ensure coding standards and best practices.Design solutions considering performance, scalability, maintainability, and simplicity.Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.Participate in unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and performance tuning.Participate in client discussions and demos to effectively present technical solutions.Contribute to process improvements, automation, version control, and deployment practices.Work effectively in Agile/Scrum and iterative development environments.Mentor junior team members and support knowledge-sharing initiatives through training, documentation, and technical presentations.Contribute to technical articles, development standards, and continuous improvement initiatives. Requirements Strong hands-on experience in AS/400 / IBM i development.Strong expertise in RPG/RPGLE, CL/CLLE, and DB2/400.Experience in designing and developing AS/400-based applications, modules, and interfaces.Good understanding of AS/400 application architecture, debugging, and performance optimization.Experience with job scheduling tools such as Control-M or equivalent.Knowledge of web services, APIs, XML, and modern integrations on AS/400 is an added advantage.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Experience with Agile, Scrum, and iterative development methodologies.Experience in code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing.Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.Ability to prepare technical documentation and design specifications.Ability to mentor team members and share technical knowledge.Experience with version control, automation, and deployment processes is preferred.
