What you’ll do Design and develop high-quality backend services and REST APIs primarily using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot, treating the API surface as a product used by internal teams, partners, and system integrators — not just an internal implementation detail.Own complex data models on Oracle, and design event-driven flows through Kafka, using Redis for caching, session state, and other performance-critical paths.Implement OIDC-based authentication and build resource servers that correctly validate tokens, scopes, and claims.Take ownership of modernizing legacy backend components: identify technical debt, architectural bottlenecks, and scalability limitations, and propose sustainable evolution strategies — moving with confidence and speed without breaking what customers depend on today.Publish and maintain internal libraries and shared modules other engineering teams rely on, managing versioning, breaking changes, and documentation with the same rigor as an external API.Build automated test suites and quality gates as a default part of delivery, not an afterthought.Promote secure-by-design principles and software quality standards across the development lifecycle.Write and run integration tests, contract tests, and performance tests as a standard part of delivery — not just unit tests — and hold your API design and code linting to a consistently enforced standard.Explore and apply AI-native engineering practices in your daily workflow — including agentic development tools and Agent Development Lifecycle (ADLC) practices — with a clear eye on token consumption and the judgment to know when to lean on AI assistance and when not to.Mentor engineers through technical leadership, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. What you’ll need Solid experience in Software Engineering, with proven experience designing and implementing complex backend systems end to end.Deep expertise in Java and the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Security.Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka (or equivalent event-streaming/messaging systems) and Redis.Deep knowledge of relational databases, ideally Oracle, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning for complex domains.Practical, hands-on experience implementing OIDC and building resource servers — token validation, scopes, claims-based authorization.A demonstrated track record of modernizing legacy backend systems with confidence and speed, not only building greenfield.Strong knowledge of REST API design, versioning, and building APIs that partners and system integrators can build on without things breaking underneath them.Genuine, hands-on experience with AI-assisted and agentic development tools as part of your daily workflow — including a track record of leveraging modern LLM-assisted development, awareness of your own token consumption, and the judgment to know when the tools help and when they don't.Strong, well-formed opinions on sticking to industry standards over reinventing the wheel.Practical, hands-on experience writing and running integration tests, performance tests, and contract tests (e.g., Pact) and disciplined use of linting/code-quality tooling.Professional working proficiency in English, both written and spoken. What’s nice to have Application security experience beyond authentication — secure coding practices, threat modeling, dependency hygiene.Performance engineering experience — profiling, load testing, tuning JVM, database, and cache layers under real production traffic.Familiarity with cloud-native technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, containers) and modern DevOps practices.Contributions to open-source projects or other significant personal technical achievements — a strong signal of genuine engineering craft.Cloud, security, or software architecture certifications. Salary ranges are defined for each role based on experience, competencies, responsibilities, and geographic location, with additional benefits and performance-based incentives depending on the position.The expected annual gross salary range for this position is €40,000–€55,000.
