About Rainmaker Rainmaker is built to give lawyers business intelligence for Business Development (BD): legal news and deal data, a BD tool for building and managing approaches to prospective clients, plus a live rankings system that lets lawyers credential their work against their peers. Product set for launch later this year. This is an AI-first product in the legal tech space; you'll get to work with a disruptive product as it impacts a new market. Where we are We are early stage and pre-product-market-fit, launching to first customers in November. The platform was built with an external engineering agency and we are bringing engineering in-house over the coming year. Everything runs on AWS: a dedicated production account, staging and performance environments, a data platform on Step Functions and Spark, a serving layer of Lambda, SQS and RDS, OpenSearch, and a Next.js front end. Infrastructure today is run by two part-time agency engineers. You will be its first full-time owner. The role You will own how Rainmaker's platform is built, deployed, observed and kept safe. You join alongside the agency's DevOps engineers and solution architect, take over infrastructure from them and become the accountable owner. You report to our Head of Engineering, working closely with our CTO, the data and AI engineers whose workloads you run, and with the Head of Operations on compliance and vendor matters. What you'll own Infrastructure. The AWS estate across production and pre-production environments (accounts, networking, compute, storage, databases, queues and search), managed as code, with cost visible and controlled.CI/CD. The pipelines from commit to production, the checks that gate them, and the release process for a platform with data, serving and web layers.Observability and incident response. Alarms that fire for the right reasons, dashboards people use, an on-call rota shared across engineering, and runbooks that have been exercised.Security. Identity and access, secrets, dependency and container scanning, penetration-test remediation, backups and disaster recovery, and the posture we can show a law-firm procurement team. Resilience. Capacity that grows with data, storage that does not run out at 2am, and functions that do not time out as indexes grow.What you'll do Take over platform ownership from the agency in a defined handover.Bring everything under infrastructure-as-code where it is not already, with a clear promotion path from dev to staging to production.Tune monitoring to a launch-stage platform: fewer, truer alarms; runbooks for the failures that actually happen.Close out the security programme: rotation, MFA, scanning, remediation, and make it repeatable rather than a project.Support the AI team's move to a multi-provider model setup on AWS, and the data team's growth in pipeline scale. You’ll also support the product engineers as they build out new features on both web and mobile.What we're looking for You have owned production infrastructure on AWS for a real product, including the parts that break: databases, queues, serverless limits, storage.You have built and maintained CI/CD for more than one service and know what a good deploy pipeline feels like from the developer's side.You know the important of security: access control, secrets, scanning, remediation, working with a pen-test report, and can talk to a customer's security questionnaire.You are fluent in infrastructure-as-code (ideally Terraform) and comfortable with Python or TypeScript when the job needs it.You are pragmatic about process at a small company: the minimum that makes things safe, and no more.You are AI-native in how you build. You use AI coding tools such as Claude Code as a matter of course, to write and review code, to read an unfamiliar system quickly, to test and document, and you know where they are unreliable and check accordingly. We build an AI product with AI, and we expect the team to work that way.We do not screen on years of experience or degrees. Tell us about a platform you ran and an incident you learned from.
