Senior Security Engineer

Senior/ Lead Security Engineer Full-Time Glasgow / Remote | £81,000 + bonus of up to 30% On behalf of a leading UK energy business, we're recruiting for an experienced Senior Security Engineer to take ownership of a strategic Security Engineering programme across a critical, nationally significant infrastructure estate. This is a fantastic opportunity for a security-focused engineer to shape compliance, resilience and innovation across a complex and evolving operational environment. The Role You'll lead the delivery of security engineering compliance, including work aligned to the NIS regulations, while driving forward initiatives that balance risk, performance and cost across the business's technical estate. Reporting to the Security Engineering Manager, you'll play a key role in shaping how security is embedded into both cyber and physical infrastructure, working closely with engineering, asset management and operational teams. You'll take responsibility for a capital investment portfolio worth millions per year, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and in line with strategic priorities. You'll also line manage a small team, with the scope to bring in graduate trainees or apprentices as the function grows, and step in to support wider management responsibilities as needed. Key Responsibilities Own delivery of an enhanced NIS compliance plan, including drafting technical policy and supporting documentationSupport wider engineering teams in identifying and responding to network security threats from both internal and external sourcesApply appropriate tools and processes to detect, prevent and respond to malicious activity across the networkManage the full lifecycle of security incidents, from detection through to resolutionHelp ensure network architecture upholds core security principles, confidentiality, integrity and availability, through proactive monitoring, resilient design and vulnerability managementAct as a technical mentor to colleagues across the wider engineering functionMaintain clear, accurate documentation for both proposed and deployed infrastructureContribute to business continuity and crisis management planning What You'll Bring Experience working within network engineering, maintenance or operations in a critical infrastructure settingStrong understanding of network security technologies, current threat landscapes and mitigation techniquesSolid grounding in TCP/IP fundamentals, including routing and management protocols, Modbus TCP security and industrial Ethernet technologiesPractical experience designing and implementing security zones and conduits in line with IEC 62443Hands-on knowledge of enterprise and industrial firewallsAbility to read and interpret network diagrams, IP addressing schemes, VLANs and routing tablesA track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams and driving positive engagementStrong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the confidence to influence senior stakeholdersA commercial mindset, with the ability to balance technical decisions against business value and operational availability Why Apply This is a rare opportunity to take a hands-on leadership role in securing infrastructure that matters, combining technical depth with real strategic influence, backed by significant investment and a clear mandate for change.
