About The Role We are seeking a skilled Application Operator / DevOps Engineer specializing in Linux and Kubernetes to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and further development of critical campus applications like HISinOne, Moodle, and ILIAS. Your focus will be on ensuring these applications run smoothly, securely, and efficiently in a cloud-native environment. Working in a hybrid setup based in Düsseldorf, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to analyze incidents, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement automation solutions. Your contributions will directly impact the stability and performance of essential systems used by thousands of users daily. Additionally, you will be involved in deploying updates, optimizing operational processes, and supporting technical testing and release activities to ensure continuous service improvement. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in IT operations, with practical experience in managing Linux-based systems and containerized environments, particularly Kubernetes. A completed IT apprenticeship, such as a Fachinformatiker/in, or an equivalent qualification, combined with hands-on experience, is essential. Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, including troubleshooting and performance tuning, is required. Experience with container orchestration, especially Kubernetes, and familiarity with automation tools like CI/CD pipelines and configuration management systems such as Puppet, are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in automating operational workflows and adopting modern DevOps practices. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are also important. Responsibilities Operate and enhance central campus applications such as HISinOne, Moodle, and ILIAS within Linux and Kubernetes environments, ensuring high stability and performance for a large user base.Analyze and resolve incidents at the 2nd and 3rd level support tiers, including complex system failures and performance issues, applying sustainable solutions.Configure and manage applications on Linux application servers and within containerized environments, ensuring optimal deployment and operation.Automate operational tasks and workflows through CI/CD pipelines, configuration management, and scripting to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.Monitor system health, performance, and availability, proactively identifying potential issues and supporting release cycles, updates, and technical testing.Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to implement best practices, optimize infrastructure, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
