About The Role We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Java Developer (m/w/d) to join our dynamic IT team at uniVersa Versicherungen. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in the strategic modernization of our core systems, specifically focusing on replacing our existing portfolio management system within the general insurance sector. Your expertise will contribute significantly to shaping the technological future of our application landscape. The role involves working on the integration of a new Java-based portfolio management system, providing technical architecture, development, and conceptual input. As an integral team member, you will take ownership of complex software challenges, guide the development process from conception through to deployment, and work closely with various stakeholders to ensure seamless implementation and operational excellence. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in backend development with Java, complemented by several years of professional experience in software projects. A genuine passion for software development and continuous learning is essential. You should be adept at quickly understanding new technologies, frameworks, and system architectures, with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing improvements. Excellent communication skills are required to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders. Responsibility and solution-oriented thinking are key traits for success in this role. A formal qualification such as an apprenticeship as a Fachinformatiker/in, a completed computer science degree, or an equivalent professional qualification is mandatory. Responsibilities As a Senior Java Developer, your primary responsibilities will include supporting the strategic replacement of our existing portfolio management system within the insurance domain. You will actively participate in designing and implementing the new system architecture, ensuring it aligns with our business needs and technological standards. Your role involves developing robust Java applications, troubleshooting technical challenges, and ensuring quality through comprehensive testing and documentation. You will take ownership of all phases of the software development lifecycle—from initial concept and design to deployment and maintenance. Collaboration is vital; you will work closely with business units, IT operations, and external service providers to ensure smooth integration and operation of the new systems. Additionally, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, optimize existing processes, and help shape the technological roadmap of the company, emphasizing scalable, secure, and efficient solutions.
