Job Title: Industrial Automation & Technology Innovation Engineer Location: Campbell, California Report to: R&D Director Salary: $120,000-$160,000 Hours: 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt, Hybrid; approximately 2–3 days/week onsite, with 3 days preferred ※Applications will only be considered from candidates who meet the listed job-related qualifications. The team works with global R&D groups, universities, startups, and technology partners to identify and validate technologies with future commercial applications. Position Summary This is a hands-on, software-focused R&D engineering role responsible for developing prototypes, evaluating technologies and external libraries, and validating concepts rather than developing finished commercial products. The ideal candidate has approximately 5+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, strong Python/software development skills, and working knowledge of either electrical engineering or control engineering. Key Responsibilities Develop Python-based software and prototypes for automation and R&D applications. Design and evaluate proof-of-concept solutions and external software/library technologies. Integrate and evaluate sensors, controllers, communication systems, and data acquisition technologies. Develop or evaluate control algorithms, system models, and simulations. Assess emerging technologies including AI/ML, Industrial IoT, digital twins, advanced sensing, and intelligent automation. Conduct technical evaluations of startup, academic, and external technologies. Support building automation, energy management, industrial control, and related technology projects. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers and global/external R&D partners. Document technical findings and present recommendations to technical and management stakeholders. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Approximately 5+ years of software/engineering experience within manufacturing, industrial technology, automation, or a related environment. Strong Python programming/software development skills. Practical knowledge of electrical engineering or control engineering gained through professional experience. Experience developing prototypes, proof-of-concepts, or evaluating technologies. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to commute regularly to the Campbell office. Preferred Experience with industrial/building automation, process control, embedded systems, modeling, or simulation. Experience with AI/ML, Industrial IoT, digital twins, sensors, or smart building technologies. Experience evaluating external libraries, emerging technologies, startups, or research projects. Master's degree in a relevant technical field. Other Details Reports to the R&D Director with no direct reports. The local R&D organization includes approximately 7 hands-on engineers working in small, flat project teams.
