Description

The Role As we scale our technology, products, and manufacturing capabilities, we are looking for a Senior Power Electronics Engineer to establish and lead our power electronics function. This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced power electronics engineer who wants to shape product architecture, build a high-performing engineering team, and help bring next-generation energy storage systems from concept through commercialization. The Senior Power Electronics Engineer will own the technical direction of power electronics at Moment Energy, including the design and development of inverters, converters, chargers, and associated power conversion systems. You will work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware, Battery, Manufacturing, Certification, and NPI teams to ensure our power electronics systems are safe, reliable, manufacturable, cost-effective, and scalable. Responsibilities and Duties Technical Leadership & Product Architecture Own the technical vision, architecture, and development strategy for Moment Energy's power electronics systems across current and future BESS platforms.Lead the design and development of power conversion systems, including inverters, DC/DC converters, AC/DC converters, and chargers, from concept through production and field deployment.Establish design standards, technical requirements, and engineering practices while making key decisions related to topologies, components, controls, protection, sensing, and thermal management.Lead technical reviews and design decisions, balancing performance, efficiency, reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost.Identify technical risks, evaluate emerging technologies, and develop the power electronics roadmap in alignment with Moment Energy's product and business objectives. Design & Development Lead circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, BOM development, simulation, modeling, and component selection for power electronic systems.Develop and review control strategies, protection systems, and fault detection to ensure stable, safe, and reliable operation.Lead EMC/EMI design and regulatory testing, as well as system validation and certification activities.Oversee prototype and production testing, establish validation methodologies, and lead root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex hardware and field issues.Review and approve engineering designs, test plans, technical documentation, and other key engineering deliverables. Team Leadership & Development Build and lead Moment Energy's power electronics team, including hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and developing engineers as the function grows.Set team priorities, establish technical ownership, and allocate resources across product development, R&D, and sustaining engineering.Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement while supporting the team's technical and career development.Partner with Engineering and People leadership on team structure, hiring plans, performance management, and long-term capability development. Cross-Functional & Manufacturing Leadership Partner with Engineering and Operations teams to integrate power electronics into complete BESS solutions.Lead the transition of power electronics designs from prototype through NPI and production, with a focus on manufacturability, testability, reliability, serviceability, and scalability.Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Chain on production processes, component sourcing, cost reduction, alternate components, and supply continuity.Support field deployment and service teams in resolving power electronics issues and driving product improvements.Communicate technical risks, priorities, project status, and key decisions to Engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Process & Continuous Improvement Establish and improve power electronics development, design review, testing, documentation, and validation processes.Drive improvements in product performance, reliability, efficiency, manufacturability, and cost while maintaining appropriate quality and safety standards.Stay current with advancements in power electronics and energy storage technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into Moment Energy's product and technology roadmap. The Candidate We’re looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a focus on power electronics.10+ years of hands-on experience designing and developing power electronic systems, ideally in industrial, renewable energy, energy storage, automotive, or other high-power applications.Demonstrated experience leading complex power electronics systems from concept through production, including R&D, prototyping, NPI, and commercialization.Previous experience leading, mentoring, or managing engineers and building high-performing technical teams.Strong understanding of power electronics principles, topologies, switching technologies, controls, power conversion, and high-power system design.Experience with component selection, circuit design, simulation, PCB design, EMC/EMI, and regulatory testing.Proficiency with power electronics tools such as LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSIM, Altium, Cadence, or equivalent.Experience developing and executing validation, characterization, and reliability testing using relevant power electronics laboratory equipment.Strong understanding of design for manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and cost, with experience transitioning designs into production.Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions while balancing performance, cost, schedule, and risk.Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and business teams.Experience in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment, with a strong sense of ownership and a passion for clean energy. Nice-to-Have Experience: Experience working with lithium-ion battery systems.Familiarity with grid-connected energy systems or PCS integration.Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for serviceability (DFS).Knowledge of UL1973, UL9540, and UL9540A certification processes.
