Development (AI) Intern
Position Details
Department / Team: Enterprise Operations (IT / Business Systems Development)
Location & Work Model: Leesburg, VA (Hybrid)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Internship)
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Position Summary
The Development Intern will support Vertosoft’s IT team with the design, development, and maintenance of internal applications, integrations, and automated workflows — with a growing focus on AI-driven and agentic solutions.
This internship provides hands-on experience in low-code development, AI-assisted automation, and business system configuration across tools such as OutSystems, Salesforce (including Einstein / Agentforce), Microsoft Azure (including Azure AI), and Wrike, with limited exposure to IT operational support for a well-rounded technical foundation.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Automation
Support the development and enhancement of internal applications using low-code platforms (e.g., OutSystems).
Assist with building and maintaining automated workflows that streamline business processes (e.g., onboarding workflows, price list management, and recurring operational tasks).
Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and refining internal tools and system enhancements.
AI & Intelligent Automation
Support the development of AI-assisted features and agentic workflows within low-code platforms (e.g., OutSystems AI, Salesforce Agentforce/Einstein).
Assist with integrating AI and large language model (LLM) capabilities into internal tools, chatbots, and automated workflows.
Help evaluate, pilot, and document AI tools and use cases to improve internal processes and productivity.
Integrations & Business Systems
Assist with API-based integrations between enterprise systems such as Salesforce, Microsoft Azure, Celigo, and other internal platforms.
Support configuration and workflow management within systems such as Salesforce and Wrike.
Help maintain system configurations to support data accuracy and reliable process execution.
Documentation & Process Improvement
Document internal tools, workflows, and technical processes to support knowledge sharing and continuity.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency gains.
Maintain clean, organized technical documentation and system notes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with IT team members on technical setup, configuration, testing, and shared tooling initiatives.
Provide limited support on IT-related tasks to gain exposure to enterprise technology operations.
Partner with interns and team members on cross-functional projects as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Education
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Technical Skills & Experience
Foundational understanding of software concepts, workflows, and application development.
Interest in low-code/no-code platforms and business systems.
Basic familiarity with APIs, integrations, or automation concepts (preferred).
Interest in AI/ML concepts, prompt engineering, or working with generative AI and LLM-based tools (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications
Experience or coursework related to low-code platforms (e.g., OutSystems, PowerApps, or similar tools).
Exposure to Salesforce, cloud platforms (Azure or AWS), and/or integration tools.
Familiarity with process automation, system workflows, or internal tooling.
Prior internship experience, academic projects, or lab experience related to development or business systems.
Exposure to AI platforms and tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Salesforce Einstein/Agentforce, or LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic).
