Description

Senior technical authority for Helios DC UPS cabinet and high-current power systems, responsible for safe, compliant and manufacturable solutions from quotation and concept through design, verification, FAT and product improvement. ROLE PURPOSE Own the electrical architecture and technical outcomes for Helios DC UPS cabinet and high-current power systems. Lead complex system designs, support PSQ and project delivery, and convert engineering knowledge into standard, modular and reusable Helios product platforms, design rules and engineering practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Own the technical direction and electrical design of Helios DC UPS cabinet and high-current DC power systems, including complex and parallel system architectures. •Develop complete system architectures covering AC input, rectifier/chargers, batteries, parallel cabinets, DC distribution, busbars, protection and isolation, monitoring/control, communications, earthing and auxiliary circuits. •Perform and review calculations for AC/DC current, cable and busbar sizing, voltage drop, fault current, protection coordination, battery and rectifier sizing, redundancy, power loss and thermal/ventilation requirements. •Design and review high-current busbar systems and select key electrical components including MCCBs, MCBs, fuses, isolators, terminals, batteries and rectifiers. •Identify applicable standards and compliance requirements by market and installation; develop compliance matrices and support design-verification activities for low-voltage assemblies. •Review cabinet layouts for safety, access, maintainability, segregation, IP protection, thermal and mechanical integration, cable routing and manufacturability; drive standardization, modularization and DFMA. •Review customer specifications, SLDs and tender requirements, identify technical/compliance risks, and support PSQ and Sales with architecture, sizing, equipment selection and technical clarifications. •Prepare and review schematics, SLDs, cabinet layouts, BOMs, calculations, specifications and verification records; establish appropriate design-review gates before customer submission and manufacturing release. •Support Production and FAT, control technical deviations, and lead fault investigation/root-cause analysis for design, production and field issues. •Work with customers, consultants, suppliers and certifiers to resolve technical matters and clearly justify design and compliance decisions. •Develop reusable engineering tools and controlled product architecture, including standard modules/interfaces, configuration rules, reusable calculations, standard drawings, checklists and approved components; mentor developing engineers and reduce unnecessary one-off design variation. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE •Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent recognized discipline. •Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in industrial DC power systems, with demonstrated experience designing high-current DC systems (typically 400 A and above), including DC distribution, busbars, protection and coordination. •Proven experience with DC UPS, battery charger, industrial cabinet/switchboard or critical-power systems, including complex and/or parallel system architectures. •Strong knowledge of batteries, rectifier/charger systems, protection architectures, fault-current assessment and protection coordination/discrimination. •Strong working knowledge of applicable Australian/New Zealand electrical, safety and compliance requirements for cabinet and power-distribution systems, with the ability to interpret standards and document compliance. •Experience taking complex engineered systems from customer specification through design, verification, manufacturing, FAT, commissioning and technical acceptance. •Strong practical understanding of cabinet manufacture, wiring, assembly, inspection and test. DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE • DC UPS systems in utilities, transport, mining, defense, telecommunications or other critical-power applications. •AutoCAD Electrical and electrical calculation/protection-coordination software. •Stationary battery systems, battery-room or hazardous-environment considerations, monitoring, industrial communications, thermal management and enclosure/IP requirements. •Chartered Professional Engineer status, RPEQ/NER registration or equivalent professional recognition where relevant. KEY COMPETENCIES •Strong engineering judgement, system-level thinking and accountability for technical outcomes. •Ability to independently make, document and defend sound technical and compliance decisions and manage design risk. •Strong fault-finding, root-cause analysis and attention to electrical safety and compliance. •Clear technical communication with customers, consultants, suppliers, certifiers and internal stakeholders. •Commercial awareness of cost, lead time, standardization and manufacturability. •Disciplined documentation and change-control practices. •Technical leadership, mentoring and effective cross-functional collaboration. SUCCESS IN THE ROLE • DC UPS cabinet systems are safe, compliant, technically robust, manufacturable and well documented. •Complex projects are technically de-risked before customer commitment and manufacturing release. •Standardized modules, configuration rules and proven solutions reduce one-off design variation, engineering rework, customer comments and production issues. •Calculations, compliance matrices, design-verification evidence and compliance records are complete and traceable. •Pre-Sales Quoting, Production and developing engineers receive timely technical support, reusable engineering tools and clear review guidance.
