About The Role We are seeking a System Engineer for our Cloud Platform team, focusing on OpenStack and VMware technologies. This fully remote position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant team that manages and develops multi-tenant cloud platforms from our data centers. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the operational management of our cloud infrastructure, ensuring stability, performance, and security for our clients. Depending on your experience and skills, we offer roles ranging from entry-level to senior positions, providing a tailored development path. Your primary responsibilities will include maintaining and optimizing cloud environments, implementing customer-specific configurations, and supporting migration projects. This role demands a proactive approach to incident management, automation, and documentation, contributing directly to the efficiency and reliability of our cloud services. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a completed IT apprenticeship (e.g., Fachinformatiker Systemintegration), a degree in computer science, or an equivalent qualification. You should have hands-on experience operating cloud or virtualization platforms, particularly OpenStack and VMware vSphere/vCenter/ESXi. Knowledge in network engineering, including TCP/IP, VLANs, switching, routing, and firewalls, as well as storage technologies like SAN and NAS, is essential. Proficiency in Linux and/or Windows server administration is required. Familiarity with backup solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, or Rubrik, along with monitoring tools like CheckMK, N-central, or Prometheus, will be advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to participate in on-call support and occasional on-site meetings, typically once or twice a month. Strong communication skills in German, structured working habits, and a high degree of responsibility are crucial for success in this role. For senior positions, additional experience with multi-tenant platforms, automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, PowerCLI, and ITIL processes is expected. Responsibilities Operate and maintain multi-tenant cloud platforms based on OpenStack and VMware at various data center locations.Build and integrate network, firewall, storage, and compute components into existing platform landscapes.Manage the lifecycle of platform components, including monitoring, patching, firmware updates, and configuration changes.Provision and configure customer-specific environments within shared platforms, including network segments, resources, and backup scopes.Execute migrations into the shared cloud environment, ensuring proper configuration and thorough documentation.Implement and enforce customer-specific SLAs, backup objectives, and security settings.Operate and monitor central platform backups using tools like Veeam, Commvault, and Rubrik.Participate in incident, change, and problem management processes at both client and platform levels.Support hosting operations, including remote hands and monitoring customer-owned hardware.Utilize monitoring and event management tools to ensure compliance with SLAs and operational standards.Contribute to team on-call rotations, providing timely support outside regular working hours.Automate routine operational tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and configuration records to ensure knowledge transfer and compliance.
