Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer

Fixed term to December 2028 The role | Te tūnga     We're looking for an experienced Senior Cloud DevOps Engineer to join Stats NZ on a fixed-term basis and play a key role in shaping and supporting our Microsoft cloud environment. Based in Wellington, this senior technical position combines cloud engineering, automation, platform operations, security, and technical leadership across a modern cloud-first organisation. Working across Microsoft 365, Azure, Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Purview, Azure Databricks, and related cloud technologies, you'll help design, deliver, and continuously improve secure, resilient, and well-governed cloud services. You'll work closely with security, architecture, and operational teams to support strategic initiatives while providing hands-on expertise that strengthens our cloud platforms and enhances the way Stats NZ works. What you bring | Nōu te rourou     Significant experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud servicesStrong expertise in Microsoft Entra ID, identity and access management, and cloud securityExperience implementing governance, compliance, information protection, and security controls across enterprise cloud environmentsAdvanced PowerShell scripting and automation skills, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and service reliabilityStrong understanding of cloud operations, incident management, troubleshooting, and continuous service improvementExperience working with DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (including Terraform), infrastructure automation, and cloud platform administration.Ability to contribute to cloud architecture, standards, roadmaps, and strategic technology initiativesProven technical leadership skills, including mentoring and supporting other engineersStrong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teamsA passion for building secure, reliable, and future-focused cloud platforms that deliver real organisational valueWe highly value demonstrated competency in mātauranga Māori, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi application in a workplace setting.
