Security Clearance: None/Not Required Collins Aerospace is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to support the implementation, qualification, and continuous improvement of a new SMT (Surface Mount Technology) production line for printed circuit board (PCB) assembly. As a Manufacturing Engineer II, you will apply manufacturing engineering principles to commission new equipment, develop and optimize SMT processes, troubleshoot production issues, and establish stable, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes. You will work closely with equipment suppliers and cross-functional teams across Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance to successfully transition the new SMT line into production. This is an individual contributor position. Your mission: to lead the implementation and optimization of SMT manufacturing processes, ensure production readiness, resolve technical challenges, and deliver safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing solutions that meet quality, throughput, yield, and business objectives. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered. Work Schedule: This position supports 2nd Shift operations. Candidates must be available to work the following schedule based on business needs: 2nd Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. What You Will Do: Lead and support the installation, commissioning, qualification, and acceptance of a new SMT production line and associated equipment. Partner with equipment suppliers, Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to establish reliable, production-ready SMT processes. Provide technical support for solder paste printing, SPI/AOI inspection, pick-and-place equipment, reflow ovens, and related material handling systems. Develop, optimize, and maintain SMT machine programs, recipes, component libraries, feeder assignments, placement coordinates, inspection programs, and process parameters. Conduct process trials, first-article builds, engineering runs, and production validations to establish stable and repeatable manufacturing processes. Troubleshoot SMT manufacturing issues, analyze defects, and perform root-cause analysis to implement sustainable corrective actions and improve process reliability. Develop thermal profiles for each product, analyze and characterize based on product complexityUse production and quality data to improve first-pass yield, cycle time, throughput, machine utilization, uptime, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, setup procedures, process controls, and equipment requirements. Support New Product Introduction (NPI), line balancing, changeover optimization, and the transition of new PCB assemblies from engineering builds into production. Provide ongoing technical support to Production and Maintenance, train personnel on equipment and processes, and identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and manufacturing technology advancements. Qualifications You Must Have: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field, and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Demonstrated professional or educational experience communicating in English and Spanish (verbal and written). U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract. Qualifications We Prefer: Hands-on experience with SMT production equipment, including solder paste printers, SPI/AOI systems, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens. Experience programming or optimizing SMT pick-and-place, SPI, or AOI equipment. Experience with solder paste printing, stencil setup, soldering processes, component packages, feeder systems, and PCB assembly. Knowledge of IPC standards, ESD controls, and electronics manufacturing requirements. Experience with NPI, equipment qualification, production-line ramp-up, or high-mix/low-volume SMT manufacturing. Experience with GPX solder paste printers or similar SMT equipment. Experience developing manufacturing documentation, standard operating procedures, process controls, and equipment setup procedures.
