Senior Azure Cloud Engineer Location: Salt Lake City, UT Job Type: Full-Time Employment Type: Direct Hire **Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. About the Opportunity We are seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join a growing technology organization supporting secure cloud infrastructure in highly regulated and government environments. This is a highly visible senior individual contributor role focused on Microsoft Azure and Azure Government environments. The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on cloud engineering experience, with particular expertise in Azure Government, cloud security, compliance, governance, and regulated environments. The organization is preparing to implement a new Azure Government environment with the support of an external systems integrator. This individual will serve as an internal technical resource throughout that effort and will play an important role in helping design, establish, operate, secure, and continuously improve the resulting cloud environment. This position will work closely with senior leadership, security, compliance, infrastructure, and external technology partners. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a highly visible environment, communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences, and influencing stakeholders without direct authority. Key Responsibilities -Design, implement, support, and continuously improve secure cloud solutions within Microsoft Azure and Azure Government environments. -Partner with an external systems integrator during the design and implementation of a secure Azure Government environment. -Provide technical input into cloud architecture, design, implementation, security, governance, and operational strategy. -Help establish and maintain secure cloud platforms, landing zones, governance controls, and operational processes. -Ensure cloud environments align with applicable federal security requirements, policies, standards, and regulatory frameworks. -Apply knowledge of FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and related government security requirements to cloud environments. -Lead or support the resolution of complex cloud infrastructure, security, and operational challenges. -Partner with security, compliance, legal, infrastructure, and other stakeholders on audits, assessments, authorization activities, and compliance initiatives. -Support incident response, disaster recovery, business continuity, and overall cloud resilience. -Drive continuous improvement of cloud services, security controls, reliability, and operational processes. -Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code and automation using tools such as Terraform or Bicep. -Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineering and technology professionals. -Communicate technical concepts, recommendations, risks, and project status to senior leadership and executive-level stakeholders. -Build consensus and influence stakeholders across the organization, including individuals who do not report directly to this position. -Manage relationships with technology vendors, partners, consultants, and service providers as needed. -Support the ongoing operation and optimization of the Azure Government environment after implementation. Required Qualifications -Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with Microsoft Azure cloud technologies. -Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience supporting Azure Government environments. -Recent, practical experience working with Azure Government/GovCloud in a government or highly regulated environment. -Strong understanding of secure cloud architecture, design, implementation, and operational practices. -Demonstrated experience working with FedRAMP and NIST 800-53 in regulated environments. -Knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (NIST CSF) and related security and compliance requirements. -Strong knowledge of Azure identity, networking, security, governance, and cloud infrastructure services. -Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Bicep. -Experience supporting cloud security, risk management, audits, assessments, or authorization activities. -Understanding of IT operations, including incident, problem, change, and service management. -Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. -Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders, senior leaders, and executive-level audiences. -Demonstrated ability to influence and drive outcomes across teams without direct authority. -Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications -Experience contributing to cloud architecture design and implementation within Azure Government environments. -Experience supporting the implementation or migration of a new government cloud environment. -Experience working directly with systems integrators, consulting firms, or external technology partners on major cloud initiatives. -Microsoft Azure certifications. -Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, Security+, or equivalent. -ITIL certification or experience with formal IT service management practices. -Experience with cloud governance, landing zones, security controls, and enterprise cloud operating models. -Experience supporting organizations subject to federal, defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated security requirements. Leadership & Collaboration This is a senior individual contributor position and does not have direct reports. The successful candidate will nevertheless operate with a high degree of visibility and influence across the organization. The individual will regularly interact with senior and executive-level stakeholders and must be comfortable presenting technical information, recommendations, risks, and decisions with confidence and authority. Success in this role will require the ability to influence individuals and teams who do not directly report to the position. Travel Approximately 10% travel may be required to support customers, other company locations, technology partners, or project activities. Work Environment This position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and is intended for a candidate who can work during standard U.S. business hours.
