So then, you’re just like every one of us! What is your new role: The core backend team owns the services behind accounts, devices, billing, and video. A large share of our current work is modernizing the video platform: connecting cameras from a growing range of vendors and protocols, ingesting clips and recordings into object storage, and serving HLS playback to apps and monitoring centers. Design, build, and maintain backend services in Node.js and Go;Improve and evolve the video platform: camera registration, clip and segment ingestion, retention enforcement, and playback;Explore ways to tie our security systems and cameras together more closely. There is a lot of greenfield work and a lot of decisions still to make;Maintain and strengthen the authentication and access control that keeps customer data secure and separate;Own features end to end: from refining the story with your team lead, through code review and partnering with QA, to verifying the release in production;Contribute to design decisions, and work with senior engineers on changes that span services;Treat tests as part of the feature, not an afterthought: cover the behavior that matters, keep the suite fast, and automate the manual checks that slow us down;Investigate production issues using logs, metrics, and profiling data, then fix the root cause rather than the symptom;Review teammates’ pull requests and give feedback that makes the codebase better;Use AI coding tools effectively to move faster, while staying accountable for the correctness, testing, security, and maintainability of everything they produce;Collaborate daily across Sofia and the US in a small, experienced team. What it takes: 3+ years building backend services in Node.js or Go;Proven API design – you’ve owned versioning, auth, and error handling on an API with real external consumers;Being comfortable with relational databases (MySQL or MariaDB): joins, indexing, and troubleshooting slow queries;Experience with Redis or a similar cache, and judgment about when caching helps and when it hides a problem;Knowledge of AWS or a comparable cloud provider, pull request reviews and CI/CD pipelines as part of everyday work;Fluent written and spoken English; Taking ownership – you carry your features from idea to production, resolve blockers proactively, ask for help early, and care how it turns out;Keeping it simple – you prefer the most maintainable solution that works, and when complexity is warranted you can explain the tradeoff;being committed to working from our office to achieve best results, through efficiency, direct communication and good relationships with colleagues.And a few nice to haves to make your profile stand out: Video delivery: HLS or MP4 segments, or transcoding with ffmpeg / Camera and streaming protocols: ONVIF, RTSP, or WebRTC / Cloud and infrastructure: CloudFront or another CDN, S3 or other object storage, Terraform / Document databases alongside relational ones / Centralized logging with the ELK stack: Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana / Metrics and dashboards with Prometheus and Grafana, or similar tooling / OAuth2 or other token-based authentication / WebSockets or other long-lived connections / Experience in the security or alarm industry.
