About The Role
The Boeing Company is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Site Reliability Engineer to join our Air Dominance Site Reliability Engineering team located in Berkeley, Missouri.
This pivotal role involves developing and executing the reliability strategy, architecture, and operational maturity of mission-critical developer platforms used by Air Dominance engineering teams.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical leader, guiding the design, implementation, and ongoing management of essential developer tools and infrastructure, including GitLab, CI/CD runners, Jira, Confluence, PostgreSQL, Artifactory, and SonarQube.
This role demands a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise, capable of leading complex investigations, mentoring engineers, and partnering with various stakeholders to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of the platform.
The position offers an opportunity to influence the technical direction of critical systems that support highly sensitive and regulated environments, ensuring continuous delivery and operational excellence.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of educational background and extensive professional experience.
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field is required.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to obtain a U.S.
Security Clearance, which necessitates U.S.
citizenship, and must be eligible for access to Special Access Programs (SAP).
A minimum of 8 years of experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo, along with enterprise architecture expertise—including cloud architecture, security, data privacy, and deployment—is essential.
Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in root cause analysis, technical leadership, and team management.
Preferred qualifications include a more extensive work history, experience with GitLab, Jira, PostgreSQL, cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, and a deep understanding of automation, observability, and cybersecurity practices.
Strong communication skills and the ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams are also highly valued.
Responsibilities
Define and lead the Site Reliability Engineering technical strategy for developer platforms including GitLab, CI/CD runners, Jira, Confluence, PostgreSQL, Artifactory, and SonarQube.Establish platform reliability architecture, including operational standards, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, KPIs, error budgets, observability patterns, capacity planning, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans.Serve as the senior technical authority for reliability, performance, scalability, database management, automation, and security-related platform decisions.Lead architecture and design reviews for infrastructure components, cloud and on-premises environments, monitoring, alerting, access controls, and integrations.Drive automation initiatives, Infrastructure as Code practices, configuration management, and operational patterns that enhance reliability and reduce operational toil.Guide major upgrades, migrations, lifecycle planning, patch strategies, recovery planning, and technical roadmaps for supported platforms.Lead complex incident response efforts, including root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and systemic improvements to prevent recurrence.Mentor and guide Site Reliability Engineers in operational excellence, troubleshooting, automation, security, and architectural best practices.Collaborate with program leadership, cybersecurity, infrastructure, software engineering, and other stakeholders to align platform strategies with organizational goals.Identify and mitigate platform risks, technical debt, capacity constraints, single points of failure, and compliance issues through proactive planning and remediation.Lead initiatives to increase the frequency and quality of end-to-end system software releases.Participate in after-hours support and escalation processes for urgent, mission-impacting issues as needed.
