Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join a technology team supporting a leading financial services client in Glasgow. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable software applications and services using Scala and related technologies. This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, experience with distributed systems, and the ability to work collaboratively in an Agile environment. Experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries is desirable. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable applications using Scala.Build and support backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and well-tested code.Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.Develop unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure software quality.Collaborate with product managers, business analysts, architects, QA engineers, and other developers.Identify and resolve technical issues, performance bottlenecks, and production defects.Contribute to architectural and technical design discussions.Review code and promote engineering best practices.Work within Agile/Scrum delivery teams and actively participate in ceremonies.Prepare and maintain technical documentation.Support continuous integration, deployment, and improvement of development processes. Required Skills and Experience: 5–7 years of professional software development experience.Strong commercial experience with Scala.Good knowledge of functional programming concepts.Solid experience with Java or JVM-based technologies.Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.Strong understanding of object-oriented and functional design principles.Experience with databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar.Familiarity with messaging and integration technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent.Experience with automated testing frameworks such as ScalaTest, Specs2, JUnit, or similar.Knowledge of build and dependency management tools such as sbt and Maven.Experience using version control systems, preferably Git.Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices.Strong understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies.Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Desirable Skills: Experience in investment banking, capital markets, risk, trading, or financial technology.Exposure to Akka, ZIO, Cats, Play Framework, or similar Scala technologies.Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and asynchronous processing.Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments.Understanding of security, compliance, and data privacy requirements.
