About Our Team The NPRE (New Peer Review Experience) team is part of Elsevier's publishing technology organization and is focused on transforming the peer review process. The team develops products and capabilities that support researchers, reviewers, and editors throughout the submission and peer review journey, helping improve the overall scientific publishing experience. About The Role As a Software Engineer, you will help design, develop, and deploy applications within a cloud-hosted distributed environment that powers next-generation products. Working closely with business stakeholders and cross-functional Agile and DevOps teams, you will contribute to technical solutions, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help deliver high-quality software that creates value for customers. Responsibilities Designing, developing and deploying applications in a cloud-hosted distributed system to build our next-generation productCollaborating with business stakeholders to identify requirements and gather feedback in a fast-moving environmentProviding input into architectural decisions to ensure stability and performanceIdentifying and implementing enhancements to continually improve our delivery processPartnering with cross-functional Agile and DevOps implementation teams Requirements Demonstrate some proficiency in some of these technologies; JavaScript / TypeScript, Frontend frameworks, Java/SpringBoot, SQL with a willingness to learn the others.Display some experience with build tools, Git and continuous integrationEnjoy collaborating with team members to create innovative solutionsHave some experience of supporting and mentoring team members to share knowledge and up-skill team membersShow some experience with alerting, monitoring and logging toolsHave experience with a modern IDE and proficiency in using the refactoring toolsBe open to discussing and honing approaches for our team to improve our working practicesHave some experience of test-driven development and mocking librariesHave some real-world experience of Agile practices and executionHave some experience of designing and developing for cloud environmentsBe familiar with AI coding toolsBe familiar with how to design and develop for cloud environments (i.e. docker, Kubernetes, AWS)Some experience of Agentic software development is desiredWanting to learn or have experience with AI based solutionsBe eager to learn and grow my skills and experienceBe aware of industry best practices and standards Work in a Way That Works for You We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
