Senior PHP Developer

POSITION OVERVIEW CMK Resources client is seeking a Sr. PHP Engineer to build, support, and improve an existing business-critical application running in AWS and Azure. This person writes and reviews code, develops APIs and integrations, troubleshoots production issues, and helps keep the platform stable, secure, and performant. The ideal candidate works independently on complex features, contributes to design discussions, follows established architecture and security standards, and is comfortable moving between a production issue, a code review, and a feature build in the same day. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / SKILLS Develop and support the organizaitons PHP applications hosted in AWS and Azure, contributing to application stability, production readiness, incident response, and ongoing platform improvementWrite clean, maintainable, secure, and high-performing PHP code, and participate in design reviews and code reviews to uphold quality expectationsBuild, maintain, and improve application capabilities, RESTful APIs, integrations, backend services, front-end workflows, background processing, and operational toolingContribute to technical design discussions and implement changes that align with established architecture principles, integration patterns, and security expectationsFollow secure engineering practices, including data protection, access control, dependency awareness, and compliance-sensitive implementationApply and help refine platform standards, coding best practices, playbooks, and reusable patterns used by the engineering teamMaintain and improve platform integrations across internal and external systems so interfaces remain reliable, observable, scalable, secure, and supportable in productionOptimize applications and data access patterns for performance, scalability, reliability, and supportabilityParticipate in production support and release activities, including troubleshooting, incident triage, hotfixes, root-cause analysis, production validation, and post-release follow-upImprove technical documentation, API contracts, operational runbooks, test coverage, and observability to increase consistency and supportabilityTranslate business requirements into practical technical solutions and collaborate with engineering, product, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders to deliver committed workBreak down assigned work, surface dependencies and risks early, provide realistic estimates, and mentor less experienced engineers REQUIREMENTS 5+ years of professional PHP development experienceExperience developing software using AI-assisted and/or agentic development tools and workflows is highly encouraged, including using them responsibly to accelerate coding, testing, code review, debugging, and documentation without compromising quality, security or maintainabilityStrong experience with Laravel and/or Symfony, object-oriented programming, application design principles, and maintainable software patternsExperience building, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting PHP-based web applications and backend servicesExperience designing, developing, implementing, and troubleshooting RESTful APIs, including contract design, versioning, authentication and authorization, and payload validation; experience with healthcare APIs such as HL7 or FHIR is an advantageStrong SQL skills with MySQL, including schema understanding, query troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production data issue resolutionExperience supporting business-critical applications hosted in AWS, including deployments, infrastructure dependencies, monitoring, incident response, hotfix support, and root-cause analysisExperience working across a full web application stack, including PHP backend services, front-end technologies, relational databases, caching, background processing, file storage, APIs, and integrationsProficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web technologiesExperience with Git version control, collaborative development workflows, Agile delivery practices, and release coordinationKnowledge of secure engineering practices, data privacy, access control, dependency awareness, and HIPAA or similar compliance-sensitive environmentsFamiliarity with DevOps or SRE practices, including reliability, observability, deployment support, and production readinessAbility to estimate and sequence your own work, weigh trade-offs between speed, cost, risk, and long-term maintainability, and explain those trade-offs clearly to peers, product, and business stakeholdersExperience mentoring or coaching other engineers through code reviews and pairingHealthcare, ordering workflow, HL7/FHIR, or platform modernization experience is helpful but not requiredStrong communication, ownership, and delivery accountability skills ADDITIONAL DETAILS -Must be US Citizen or Green Card Holder - No 3rd Parties -3 month contract-to-hire
