DevOps Engineer

Key Responsibilities You will be a strong, technical & proactive engineer who will be responsible for: Working closely with our engineering teams to understand their product requirements, how they build / test / deploy their software applications Provide guidance on DevOps tools, environments & best practices to our teams that have been developed by the DevOps Centre of Excellence (DCOE) Contribute to the DCOE initiatives, either in the form of documentation and best practices or helping to deliver strategic solutions to the bank that work for our engineering teams. You are able to promote DevOps internally within the bank, and be an advocate for clean, rapid & robust software delivery pipelines within the bank You have a excellent technical background and you can seamlessly move from the presentation deck to the code editor and help realize our strategic ambitions What is the Opportunity To work with our Engineering Factories & DevOps Centre of Excellence to build best in class in delivery pipelines. Essential Skills and Experience A minimum of 8 years in either a software development role where you have excellent exposure to releasing applications into a production environment or an operational facing role where you've had to deploy and support production type workloads You can articulate technical designs and processes to both engineering teams and non-technical audiences Exposure to the requirements of delivering software in regulated environments, and comfortable with a large number of stakeholders who need to understand how your processes are designed and delivered. Excellent communication skills and comfortable with Email and other team collaboration tools. Experience using the Atlassian tool stack - Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket & Crucible If you've done software development, we would look for: Excellent skills in one of the main scripting languages such as python, perl, ruby and their test frameworks Strong development background in languages such as C, C#, Java, Golang and a thorough understanding of their test frameworks You have developed applications that have involved the delivery and consumption of API's Exposure to one or more cloud providers (AWS / Azure / GCP) and you're comfortable with how to provision infrastructure using the portal UI. Excellent hands on experience in CI tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo etc. You're used tools like Ansible / Puppet / Chef to deliver infrastructure, and you know how to test them thoroughly You've used Terraform to build cloud based environments, or private cloud services Docker and orchestration environments such as Kubernetes / OpenShift exposure OR If you've been more involved in the operational side of things, we like to see something like the following: You have a through understanding of how the infrastructure is managed and provisioned in virtualized environments such as VMWare You've used configuration management tools like Ansible / Puppet / Chef in anger and have a thorough understanding of their test frameworks In depth experience of one or more of the cloud providers (AWS / Azure / GCP) and can automate infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM Templates etc. Certifications are nice, but hands on experience preferable. You've been on the receiving side of poorly specified and tested software, had to make last minutes fixes and swore this was never going to happen again. You are willing to use test first development to help overcome these last minute surprises. You've configured and managed container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, OpenShift and understand workload lifecycles in these environments In depth experience of configuration management orchestration tools such as Ansible Tower / Chef Server Thorough understanding of SSL & Cryptography and solutions for automation & management of SSL Certificates for applications
