Role Description As a Staff Engineer at Somi AI, you will provide technical leadership across projects, setting architectural direction and guiding the design of scalable, reliable AI-driven systems.
You will work closely with cross-functional partners to define requirements, review design proposals, and ensure high-quality implementation across services, APIs, and infrastructure.
Day-to-day, you will write production-grade code, perform code reviews, mentor other engineers, and improve engineering practices, tooling, and documentation.
You will diagnose complex technical issues, drive performance and reliability improvements, and help make strategic decisions about technologies and frameworks.
This is a full-time remote role, offering flexibility while expecting strong communication, ownership, and collaboration across distributed teams.
Qualifications
Strong software engineering skills in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Typescript/JavaScript, Java, Go) and experience building production systems.Experience designing and implementing distributed systems, microservices, or cloud-native architectures on platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.Background in data-intensive or AI/ML-powered applications, including working with APIs, data pipelines, model integration, or similar technologies.Proficiency with software development best practices, including testing, CI/CD, monitoring, performance optimization, and secure coding.Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate effectively with product, design, and other stakeholders.Comfort working in a remote, asynchronous environment with clear written and verbal communication skills.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Experience in early-stage or high-growth technology companies, especially in AI or developer tools, is a plus.
