We’re looking for Associate Engineers to join our engineering teams and help shape the future of digital experiences across Sainsbury’s, Argos and Habitat. As an Associate Engineer, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative, agile environment, contributing to the design, development and support of modern technology solutions. You’ll gain hands-on experience across websites, mobile apps, cloud platforms, microservices and event-driven architectures while continuously developing your technical skills and engineering expertise. What You’ll Be Doing Contributing to the design, development and support of scalable technology solutions and customer-facing products.Building and enhancing websites, mobile applications, APIs, microservices and event-driven systems.Working with technologies such as C# .Net, React and Next.js, MongoDB and SQL.Learning and applying cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure and GCP).Supporting the engineering lifecycle from development through to deployment, maintenance and decommissioning.Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet customer and business needs.Contributing to technical roadmaps and engineering best practices.Continuously improving your technical knowledge and exploring emerging technologies. Essential Criteria Commercial experience or strong academic background in software engineering or computer science.Experience programming in at least one modern language or framework such as C# .Net, React, Next.js, JavaScript.Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and development best practices.Awareness of cloud technologies, CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery approaches.Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies and collaborative ways of working.Strong problem-solving skills with a curiosity for learning and experimenting with new technologies.Passion for building solutions that deliver value to customers.Excellent communication and teamwork skills with a willingness to learn from and support others. Desirable Skills Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.Experience working with APIs, microservices or event-driven architectures.Understanding of DevOps principles and automation.Personal projects, internships, placements or open-source contributions demonstrating technical capability and enthusiasm for engineering.
