Description
Title: Sr.
Infrastructure Engineer(Linux, Python, Ansible, VMware, IaC)
Location: Glasgow, UK (Onsite)
Type: Long term contract role
Job description:
The Infrastructure-as-a-Service Engineering group in the Client's Core Infrastructure division and is responsible for designing, implementing, integrating, and maintaining the firm’s large- scale global physical and virtual server infrastructure.
The group evaluates, certifies, integrates, and supports a broad range of infrastructure technologies, including hardware platforms, hypervisors, Linux operating systems, system configuration tooling, critical infrastructure services, automation platforms, load-balancing, high availability solutions, and virtualization management technologies.
We are a key part of the firm’s DevOps transformation, delivering real-time APIs and automation capabilities that enable infrastructure-as-code patterns and provide the back-end integrations that translate desired state into reliable production outcomes.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced engineer to join the platform engineering team.
The role will focus on integrating, testing, securing, and improving multiple infrastructure codebases, with a particular emphasis on vulnerability remediation, code hardening, automated validation, and safe production rollout.
This is not a simple “follow the requirement and apply a fix” role.
We are looking for a self-starter who can operate effectively in a complex engineering environment.
The successful candidate will need to understand complex distributed systems, assess the broader impact of security changes, design robust remediation approaches, and produce stable, maintainable, and future- proof secure code.
They will also be expected to define appropriate test plans, validate changes in lab environments, and support production rollout with a focus on minimizing risk and stability impact.
You Will
• Work across multiple infrastructure and automation codebases to remediate identified security vulnerabilities.
• Design, implement, and validate secure, stable, and maintainable code changes.
• Work as an integration engineer, connecting vendor, open-source, and internally developed solutions into the firm’s infrastructure platform.
• Develop and maintain automation using Python and related tooling.
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, automated test coverage, and release validation processes.
• Create test plans and validation procedures for security-related code and configuration changes.
• Use lab and pre-production environments to test complex changes before production rollout.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, security, and application teams to assess impact and drive remediation to completion.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, documentation, and technical planning.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of platform reliability, security posture, and engineering practices.
You Have
• Strong Linux engineering skills, including configuration, troubleshooting, system-level diagnostics, and operational support.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and the challenges involved in changing, testing, and operating them safely.
• Strong Python development skills, with the ability to write robust, maintainable, production-quality code.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and release automation.
• Experience with both automated and manual testing approaches.
• Ability to create practical test plans, validation procedures, and rollout plans for complex technical changes.
• Experience working with large-scale production environments and an understanding of operational risk.
• Good understanding of security principles, vulnerability remediation, secure coding, and system hardening.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, infrastructure services, automation, networking, and application integration points.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and drive complex problems through to resolution.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical risks, options, and recommendations clearly.
You May Have
• Experience with Perl in addition to Python.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools such as Ansible, SaltStack, or similar.
• Experience with VMware ESXi, virtualization platforms, or private cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with vulnerability management, security scanning tools, remediation workflows, and audit/compliance requirements.
