Senior Data Engineer Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands Work Model: Hybrid / To be confirmed Experience: 8+ years Language: Fluent English Employment Type: Contract / Permanent – To be confirmed Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and evolve secure, scalable and governed data solutions that enable FMCC to deliver reliable controls, regulatory outcomes and actionable client, income, commercial and control insights. The role combines deep hands-on data engineering expertise with end-to-end ownership. You will translate business and regulatory requirements into robust data models, pipelines and BI solutions, while contributing as a senior technical expert across strategic Data, BI and AI initiatives. You will be closely involved throughout the delivery lifecycle — from solution design and engineering through testing, deployment and production support. You will also help raise engineering standards, anticipate technical risks, provide clear technical direction, coach colleagues and contribute to a collaborative, solution-focused culture. The role reports functionally to the Data Domain Area Lead in Amsterdam and hierarchically to the Change Lead. Key Responsibilities Own the end-to-end design, development and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and data products, covering ingestion, transformation, storage, orchestration and consumption.Translate business, control and regulatory requirements into robust technical designs, governed data models and fit-for-purpose BI solutions.Design and implement reliable ETL/ELT processes for batch and, where relevant, streaming workloads, incorporating appropriate data quality, lineage and traceability controls.Lead technical solution design and develop reusable blueprints that improve scalability, maintainability, client outcomes and regulatory compliance.Establish engineering quality through:Automated testingCode reviewsVersion controlCI/CDMonitoring and observabilityClear operational ownershipOwn the deployment lifecycle of new and changed data models and BI solutions across test, acceptance and production environments.Perform impact assessments and collaborate with business stakeholders to prioritize work, manage dependencies and deliver against the roadmap.Ensure technical documentation, requirements, design decisions, controls and support procedures are complete, current and properly endorsed.Drive timely enrichment and optimization of FMCC data required for new regulations, control processes and Process and Transaction Monitoring solutions.Explore opportunities to leverage FMCC data capabilities for advanced analytics and future AI use cases, including the responsible use of generative AI.Coach and mentor engineers, promote knowledge sharing and continuously improve engineering practices, resilience and delivery discipline.Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and promote transparent planning, early escalation and fact-based decision-making.Help shape how FMCC designs, governs and operates its data engineering capabilities.Contribute to BI initiatives using tools such as Power BI, Cognos, Tableau or Looker.Act as the primary bridge between FMCC business teams, Change, BAU, Architecture and BIDS, ensuring data capabilities remain aligned with strategic priorities and operational requirements.Drive integration of data capabilities across FMCC through shared standards, reusable solutions, cross-functional collaboration and early involvement of data expertise in strategic initiatives.Represent FMCC Data in cross-domain forums, architecture discussions and strategic initiatives across Wholesale Banking.Required Technical Skills & Experience 8+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, cloud engineering, data analytics or a closely related technical field.Proven hands-on experience designing and building complex, production-grade data pipelines using ETL/ELT patterns.Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.Practical experience with PySpark for distributed data processing.Hands-on experience with Apache Spark.Experience with workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.Strong experience with cloud data platforms, preferably:Google Cloud Platform (GCP)BigQueryWorking knowledge of Azure and/or AWS.Strong understanding of:Data modellingNormalization and denormalizationData integrationData lakesData warehousesExperience with relational and non-relational data stores, including technologies such as:MS SQLHivedbt / dbt LabsAmazon S3 and other object experience in data modelling, normalization/denormalization and integrating data across complex systems.Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, PySpark and dbt Labs for data processing and automation.Proven track record delivering Data, BI or IT solutions, preferably within an Agile environment.Experience working with large-scale distributed data processing environments.Financial
